Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Crashing Issue Is there any fix yet (2)

If you have a knack for history, archaeology and treasure hunting, you must have watched the Indiana Jones movies, wishing it was you doing all the exploration. Well, that can now be possible as Machine Games and Bethesda Softworks just released an Indiana Jones game. Yes, you can now play as Dr Henry Walton and explore the globe for spiritual sites in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. However, the game is crashing for some unfortunate players. So, if you too are encountering the same, you might be wondering whether there is any fix for this yet. Well, continue reading to know more.

Players of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are encountering persistent crashes, with two main issues reported: the game either crashes to desktop (CTD) without any error message after around five minutes of gameplay, or it fails to start altogether, displaying a black screen before immediately crashing. Obviously, these problems are causing frustration, with many seeking fixes. So, in this guide, we have shared some effective workarounds for the same.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Crashing Issue: Is there any fix yet

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Crashing Issue Is there any fix yet

A patch, Update 1, was recently released for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, addressing various bugs and performance issues. However, these specific crashing problems remain unresolved. For now, you will have to rely on community-suggested workarounds, which could come in clutch.

First Steps

Start by restarting your PC. If you’re still stuck with crashes, try launching the game in safe mode, adjusting the in-game settings to a lower preset, and then closing it. After this, start the game normally, and it should work with the updated settings. This method has helped some players stabilize their gameplay without further issues.

Updates

The next thing to do is check for updates! Starting with the Windows update. If that is up to date, download the Day 1 patch for the game, and finally, update your GPU drivers to the latest version! Keeping your GPU drivers up to date can resolve compatibility issues and improve stability, especially with newly released games. Head over to your GPU manufacturer’s website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel), download the latest driver, install it, and give the game another shot.

Lower Graphics settings

If updating your GPU drivers didn’t do the trick, another workaround is tweaking the graphics settings. A player mentioned that running the game on the ‘superior’ graphics setting caused crashes for them, but lowering the preset to ‘very ultra’ or below seems to make things more stable. It’s worth experimenting with lower settings to see if it helps reduce crashes while still keeping the visuals decent.

Verify Game Files

Verifying game files can also be an effective fix for crashes. One player reported discovering that 61 GB of game files were somehow corrupted. After letting Steam verify and repair the files, the game started running smoothly without any further issues. All you have to do is right-click the game in your Steam library, select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files, and let Steam handle the rest.

Config File

Another effective workaround that’s been reported to work is editing the TheGreatCircleConfig.local file. By changing the r_hairMaxStrandsPerModel value from “32768” to “0,” some players have managed to stop the crashes—but there’s a catch: everyone in the game ends up bald! While it’s not a perfect fix, it might be worth a try if the crashes are driving you crazy and you don’t mind the hair loss. You can find the config file here: C:\Users\[Your Username]\Saved Games\MachineGames\The Great Circle\base.

Launch Options

Some players have found that adding the “+com_skipIntroVideo 1” command to the game’s launch options can help bypass crashes. To try this, right-click on the game in your Steam library, select “Properties,” navigate to “Set Launch Options,” and enter “+com_skipIntroVideo 1”. Remember, this isn’t a guaranteed fix, but it’s worth a shot if you’re experiencing persistent crashes.

Increase VRAM

Another workaround that has worked for some is manually adjusting the virtual memory (page file) sizes. One player with 16GB of RAM set the initial size to 24,576 MB and the maximum to 49,152 MB, then started the game. When the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter interface appeared, they selected Test Game, and it successfully loaded. This tweak might help if you’re still experiencing crashes. Here’s how to adjust virtual VRAM:

  • In the Windows search box, type “View Advanced System Settings” and select it.
  • Click on the “Settings” button under the Advanced tab.
  • In the Performance Options window, navigate to the Advanced tab again.
  • Click on “Change” in the Virtual Memory section.
  • Uncheck the option that says “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.”
  • Select the drive where the game is installed (for example, C or D).
  • Set the custom size for virtual memory: the initial size should be 1.5 times your total RAM, while the maximum size should be 3 times your total RAM.
  • Click “OK” to apply the changes.

Bios Fix (Advanced)

Getting to more advanced workarounds, this involves checking your Intel CPU and motherboard BIOS, as certain crashes might stem from instability issues in 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs. So, make sure your motherboard’s BIOS is updated to the latest version to prevent these problems. You can do a quick search online for the motherboard you use to see how the BIOS for it can be updated.  This is a more advanced fix, so only attempt it if you’re comfortable navigating your motherboard’s UI and settings.

RAM profiles (Advanced)

While we are on the topic of advanced fixes, if you are someone who uses performance profiles (such as XMP or DOCP) on your RAM, disabling it might do the trick. One player has found that turning off these profiles in their BIOS has resolved crashing issues. While this might slightly reduce performance, it’s worth a try if other solutions haven’t worked for you. Just be sure to save your changes in the BIOS before restarting your system.

Those are all the effective workarounds we have for now. We hope this was helpful and that you can get back to exploring sites in the game without any crashes.
