Death is permanent in the Hunt Showdown. But the Death Cheat trait gives the players a chance to save their Hunter even after facing defeat. It was meant to be a temporary thing. The trait is meant to be gone when used up. But several players have reported that the trait stays equipped even after facing several defeats.
