Xbox One Controller

The controls of the Xbox One uses a special kind of software called firmware, which is designed to run on physical devices. Microsoft makes changes to this firmware from time to time, which is why your Xbox One controller sometimes needs updating.

You can update the Xbox One controller firmware through the console or a Windows 10 PC, and you can do it with a Wi-Fi wireless connection or with a micro USB cable. The process doesn’t take long and can resolve many annoying bugs, such as dropped connections.

Why Should I Update My Xbox Controller?

Xbox controller

The Xbox Wireless Controller is the controller that ships with Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, but it also works with Windows PCs, Apple devices, and more. Microsoft regularly releases firmware updates that improve the performance of the controller or fix compatibility issues with Steam, Android phones, Apple TV, and iPhones. So if you’re having an issue with your Xbox controller, a software update might fix it.

The Xbox One Controller is designed to work on Windows 10, which means you can connect your controller to any Windows 10 computer with a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

  1. Download and install the  ‘Xbox Accessories’ app from Microsoft Store.
  2. Launch the Xbox Accessories app and connect your Xbox One controller to your computer using a USB cable. You’ll need a USB Type-C cable to do this.
  3. The Xbox Accessories app will recognize the controller after you connect it in. If the controller’s firmware isn’t up to date, you’ll notice an “Update required” button beneath the controller’s image on your screen. Click it.
  4. If you don’t see an automatic message, click ‘…’ (three dots) to access more options.
  5. Click on the box that says ‘Firmware Version’ followed by a number.
  6. Next, you’ll see a warning asking you to make sure that the controller is connected properly and warning you not to move the device during the update. Once you’ve read it and followed the instructions, click “Continue.”
  7. The Xbox Accessories app will now begin downloading and installing the update.
  8. You’ll notice a green tick mark above the controller’s photo after it’s finished. Click on “Next”.

That’s it! Your controller is now up-to-date. For more information like this, stay tuned to Digi Statement.
