The PlayStation 5 is the newest release in Sony’s console lineup and promised to bring with it the new generation of console gaming. Despite the supply chain issues of recent times, the PS5 console was well received and multiple players are already swearing by the console and its generational improvements in fps and quality of games in addition to load times and overall gameplay experience. PS5 also brings with it nifty features such as a new controller with haptic feedback and advanced controls which was also touted as an improvement over the last generation of DualShock controllers. In this article, we are going to be taking a look at how to turn off PS5 from rest mode.
The PS5 system has a feature called rest mode which turns off the majority of the system’s functions in an effort to conserve power. It is a feature similar to the console controller disconnecting after a few minutes of being left unused and disconnecting from the system to conserve battery life. While this is a nifty feature to have when the system is not in use, it sometimes gets in the way of updates or other processes which technically count as idling as per the system. In order to mitigate this, multiple players prefer disabling the feature entirely and not having the system go into rest mode.
How to turn off PS5 from rest mode?
The issue with the rest mode in this console was that multiple devices were effectively bricked when they went into rest mode while installing important software. Other known issues are disabled USB ports going into rest mode and in some cases, the controllers refuse to connect with the system after the console has been put into rest mode. There are only 2 ways of disabling this mode currently. Those methods are;
1). Via Settings.
To disable rest mode via settings, follow the steps below;
- Go to SETTINGS
- Navigate to POWER SAVING OPTIONS
- Find REST MODE
- Choose DO NOT PUT INTO REST MODE to effectively disable the feature.
2). Via Pressing the Power Button.
If you do not wish to go to settings, press and hold the power button down on the console. After a couple of seconds, you should hear two beeps. Once you hear the beeps, let go of the power button as the rest mode has been turned off.
Unfortunately, there are no other methods to turn off this mode nor is it known why this mode is causing the issues above. It is recommended that you disable the rest mode if you wish to keep the console safe and away from any major issues until it is resolved fully.
