How to fix join failed game version error in Apex Legends

Apex Legends has solidified its position as a leading title in the world of Battle Royale games, with its adrenaline-filled, fast-paced gameplay and diverse roster of characters. However, even during its success, occasional errors may disrupt the gaming experience. One such error is the “join failed game version” issue, which can prevent you from connecting to matches. So, how can you fix this? Well, keep reading to learn more.

The “join failed game version” error keeps occurring in Apex Legends, and it’s been a problem for years. It’s frustrating because it stops you from getting into the game. When you’re excited to play and then you can’t join because of this error, it’s really annoying. But because it has happened before, we know a bit about it and how to try fixing it. So, consider reading until the end for workarounds on how to get rid of this problem.

How to fix join failed game version error in Apex Legends

First things first

Sometimes, the game might encounter temporary issues or glitches that can be resolved simply by closing the application and relaunching it. If this does not fix the issues, try restarting your PC or console, which could help to refresh the system and resolve any underlying issues that may be causing the error.

Check Internet

Before troubleshooting further, make sure your internet connection is stable. You can do this by checking if other devices on the same network are able to connect to the internet without any issues. If your internet connection seems unstable, try restarting your router, and if possible, switch to a different Wi-Fi network or use a wired connection instead. With these tweaks, restart the game and see if this fixes the issue.

And just so we are talking about your network connection, you can also try contacting your ISP and hopefully, they can help diagnose and address any underlying network issues that may be preventing you from connecting to the Apex Legends servers.

Check Server Status

It is possible that the error is due to the game servers being down. So, go ahead and try checking the status of the Apex Legends servers through official channels, or you can visit here (a third-party server status page). If the servers are down or under maintenance, you have no other option but to wait it out.

Switch Servers

Speaking about servers, another workaround is to switch to a different server. After restarting the game, from the data center selection screen, choose a different server. This can help if the issue is related to a specific server or region. A tip here would be to switch to an alternate server that is still close to your actual location.

Check for Updates

It’s important that your game client is up-to-date. So, launch the game launcher or platform (such as Steam, the EA App, or the respective console store) and check for any available updates for Apex Legends. If updates are available, download and install them. Once the update is complete, relaunch the game and attempt to join a match.

Change DNS

To change DNS settings, first access network settings (on PC, head through Network Status; on Xbox, go to Network Settings in the Xbox Guide; on PlayStation, access Network Settings in PlayStation settings). Then, for PC, open Network Adapter Properties and select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties, manually setting DNS Server Addresses to preferred (e.g., 8.8.8.8) and alternate (e.g., 8.8.4.4). For Xbox, select the Network Connection option, choose Advanced Settings, and opt for Manual DNS Settings, inputting preferred and alternate DNS server addresses. For PlayStation, choose Wi-Fi/LAN connection and opt for Custom setup, setting IP Address to Automatic and DHCP Host Name to Do Not Specify. Enter Manual DNS Settings with preferred and alternate DNS server addresses, as stated above. After saving changes, restart your device and attempt to reconnect to Apex Legends.

Verify Files

Verifying the game could also help fix the error. To do so via Steam, you can start by right-clicking on the game’s tile in your library, selecting Properties, and navigating to the Installed Files tab to find the option to Verify the Integrity of Game Files. Wait for the process to finish, after which start the game to check if the error persists.

Reinstall

If nothing works out for you, reinstalling the game is the last option you have. A fresh installation could potentially eliminate any corrupted files or misconfigurations that may be causing the “Join failed, game version error” in Apex Legends. Once the game is reinstalled, it provides a clean slate for troubleshooting, often resolving persistent issues.

We hope this guide helped in fixing the issue and that you were able to get back to popping heads. Now, before you leave, don’t forget to bookmark DigiStatement for more gaming news and guides. Read more: NBA 2K24 Season 8 Release Date: When it will be available
