You will begin your fishing journey with a simple bamboo pole.
This Bamboo fishing pole should be upgraded to a better pole as soon as they are available. There are different types of fishing poles that can help catch better and more complicated fish, There are some fish that specifically spawn during the day or night, similarly, some will only be available in a particular season and fishing area.
The game has 3 common areas to fish, the sea, ocean, and lake.
As stated at the beginning of the article, a lot of factors are taken into account for which fish you will find.
As you increase in your fishing skill level, your cast will increase and you will receive items that will help you in catching fish much more easily.
How do you catch fish?
Stardew Valley has a minigame that pops up when a fish takes your bait, to catch the fish you have to play the minigame, we will explain the UI and how it works below.
- There will be a fish icon that will go up and down, either slowly or at a very fast pace this varies based on how rare the fish is and what your fishing level skill is at, and so on, you have to keep the highlighted green bar behind the fish icon, as in the fish icon should be within the green bar and not away from it.
- You control the green bar by pressing the “X” button, you will see a green bar adjacent to the fish which will fill up as you come close to catching the fish or it will fall down if you’re being unable to catch the fish.
- We would suggest alternating between tapping the “X” button and holding it, since the fish movements can be erratic.
That’s all there is to fishing in Stardew Valley, the minigame is quite difficult and brutal for new players but most get the hang of it after a while and as you level up, it becomes slightly easier but definitely not something that wouldn’t frustrate you from time to time.
