Stardew Valley Fishing

Fishing in Stardew Valley

In the game, you will be prompted to come to meet a fellow friend you’ve made during your adventure by the docks, once you’ve met them and the cut scene ends, you will receive your first bamboo fishing pole, now things to remember regarding the fishing pole is that there are various other types of fishing poles you can get which are of better quality and can catch better and more complicated fish, such as legendary fishes, which in turn give you more money, you can cast further as you level up. Another aspect to remember is that you can fish in three common areas in Stardew Valley, rivers, oceans, and lakes, each of which has different fish in them which are worth different amounts of coins.

Besides the fishing pole and the body of water you are fishing in, it is extremely important to remember that the time of the day and seasons also have an impact on the fish you will find, some fish will only be available at night or day and some will only be available during a particular season. A lot of factors go into fishing in Stardew Valley and it is quite difficult, to begin with.

It is highly advised that you get a better fishing pole as soon as possible and will have to simply grind to increase your fishing level as you even begin to get items that can help make fishing easier.

Controls for Fishing mini-game

When you’re by a river, ocean or lake and you throw your cast out, you will eventually have a fish take your bait, now to reel the fish in, a minigame appears on your screen, it will consist of a fish icon with a green bar behind it and another green bar adjacent to it, we will explain this step-by-step below.

  • The fish icon will move up and down either slowly or erratically, you have to keep the green highlighted bar behind it, as in the fish icon should be within that bar, now this is no easy task, you have to press the square button to move that green bar up and leave the square button for it to fall down, this bar is however very sensitive, so the best way to keep the fish within the bar is to simply tap the square button.
  • This will take you a couple of tries if we are being honest, when your fishing level is one, this mini-game is unforgiving but it does get better and a little bit easier as you progress into higher levels.
  • The green bar adjacent will increase as your chances of catching the fish increase as well, similarly, it’ll remain at the bottom if you have absolutely no chances of catching the fish.

We can’t, unfortunately, give you one piece of advice which would instantly make you catch a fish every time, but we can say that you should tap the square button instead of holding and keep trying, as you progress to level 2 and above, you can get items to help you catch fish and the green highlighted bar becomes slightly bigger and also it is advisable to buy the newer fishing rods as they become available, stated before, upgraded rods make it easier to catch fish and even catch better fish.
