Fishing in Stardew Valley is quite in-depth, the fish you can or want to catch depends on the basis of the time of day, there are different fish that you can catch during the day and the night, some will only spawn during the night or day, the area you’re fishing in also have certain unique fishes, and the season it is will also have an impact on which fishes you find, as you can tell, there are a lot of factors for which fish you will be catching and to sum it all up, you can catch trash instead of fish if your fishing rod is low quality or you don’t have bait.

How do you fish in Stardew Valley mobile?
Stardew valley fishing includes a mini-game to help catch the fish, however, this mini-game gets more difficult on the basis of the rarity of the fish. Once you begin fishing you will have a small window pop up which will have a fish icon going up and down, to catch the fish you will need to tap the screen to keep a highlighted bar in line with the fish icon, you will have to keep doing this until you are prompted that you have caught the fish or the fish escapes, added to that there is an adjacent bar, which will go green if you are tapping at the right time and amount, the more this green bar fills up to the top, the higher your chances will be to catch the fish.
The speed of the fish icon going up and down will depend on the rarity of the fish, if it’s quite common then the chances of catching it will also be quite high as compared to a fish that is very rare and can only be sighted in a particular area, during a particular season.
