PlayStation 5 is undoubtedly the best next-gen console and there are several reasons for that. One of such reasons is that you do not need the actual controller to control your PS5. Yes, you can control your PS5 console using a simple TV remote as well!

You can use the remote to select videos, play them, pause them, fast forward them and a lot more. And here are the steps using which you can easily control your PlayStation 5 with the TV remote and use PS5 without a controller –

  • The first thing you need to do is to go to the Settings section and then click on it.
  • From the options available, scroll on down until you get System and then click on it.

Control PS5 Using TV Remote

  • From the menu, click on HDMI and then go over to “Enable HDMI Device Link”.
  • Once you do that, you will have two options – Enable One-Touch Play and Enable Power Off Link. You have to turn both of them on. In simple words, enable both the One-Touch play and Power Off Link as well. The Power Off Link lets you turn off your TV and if you turn off your TV, your PS5 also turns off. So make sure that HDMI Device Link is enabled.
  • Now open up your source list and check the source you need to use your TV remote. For example, for some players the source van be HDMI-CEC. Similarly, choose the source of your preference. The sources are different for different users.
  • The next thing you need to do is to go to the end section of your TV and enable this thing there as well.
  • Go to the menu section of your TV and search for the System settings.
  • In there, go to the connectivity section. Here is an example – For Samsung TVs, this section is termed as Anynet Plus. Search for the connectivity section in yours and then enable it.
  • Next, you will find the same source you had on your PS5 here. You have to select it. This is kind of a pairing thing.

This is all you have to do to be able to use your TV remote to control your PS5 and not the exact controller. Now if you have the HDMI Device Link turned on, one cool thing is that if you turn on your PlayStation 5 with the actual controller, your TV will turn on as well! As an addition, it will switch over to the correct input source too! So you do not have to go to the source menu again and again to do the same.
