Today, Wizard101 is counted among one of the many classic MMORPGs. Officially released in 2008, the game became KingsIsle Entertainment’s best-known title besides 2012’s Pirate101. As the name suggests, Wizard101 is set in a world where there’s an abundance of magic, and you, the player, are a student wizard. Tasked with saving the world, you will go through countless trials and tribulations on this perilous journey. While many want to start their new wizard journey, there are certain questions that they would prefer to know the answer to first. And a major one happens to be a question surrounding the game’s active player number.
There are a ton of MMORPGs, but only some manage to make it in the long run. The graveyard of failed MMORPGs is vast and ever-expanding. It’s a really tough genre, as developers need to not only put out constant new content but good ones too. A couple of bad DLCs or expansions, and you will see the player base leaving a game in droves. How many people still play Wizard101 (2024)?
Wizard101 is only available for two platforms: Windows and Mac OS X. Out of these two, we only have player numbers for the former, so the true player count is something that only KingsIsle is privy to.
Now, when it comes to Windows, you can either download the game from the Wizard101 website or through Steam. So, if players go with the former route, then there’s another chunk of player numbers that we don’t have the statistics for. This is mainly due to the fact that Steam only tracks player numbers for games that were purchased on it.
Now the average player number for the Steam version of Wizard101 has been below 500 since the start of 2023. At the time of publishing this, the game had a 24-hour peak player count of about 850. This, coupled with the unknown OS X numbers, which aren’t going to be that many anyway, and players who got the game through the website, makes it safe to say that Wizard101 has a few thousand active players at most at any given time.
True player numbers are something that only KingsIsle has access to. However, one thing that we are sure of is that a good amount of the active player base is made up of veteran players. Wizard101 is not a new player-friendly game due to the age-old paywall problem. It is also due to the fact that many potential players turn away from the game. So, if you are thinking about trying out Wizard101, go ahead and do so, but be ready to eventually come across the paywall.
