Google is adding Custom Car icons in new Google Maps update

Google Maps Logo

Google Maps was released on 8th February 2005. It is one of the very useful Google products. Google Maps features include satellite images, aerial photography, street view, real-time traffic monitoring, and route planning for traveling by foot, car, bicycle, or public transportation. With days passing and after many updates, Google Maps has become more accurate and capable to find routes even in the local areas.

Now, a new update is available for Maps with the support of custom car icons. This feature was already available on the iPhone and iPad for a couple of years. A custom car icon means that now you can change the blue arrow icon while navigating.

As Android is Google’s own mobile operating system, we expect the latest updates to release on Android first, but here the company is doing it the other way round.

Yet, as the update is now live for Android users, you can test it on your device. A similar option to change the car icons showed up earlier this year as a beta update, but now this update is stable.

Google Maps – Custom Car Icons:

Changing the custom car icons in android is very similar to changing icons in the iPhones. The step-by-step guide to change the car icon is mentioned below.

  • Go to the Google Maps app on Android Phone.
  • Set a route on the map and start navigation.
  • Now, tap the blue arrow and different icons will now appear.
  • Choose your favorite icons and it will be selected.

The three custom car icons in the Google Maps are a red sedan, a yellow SUV, and a green pick-up truck. At any point in time, if you want to restore it to the blue arrow, just repeat the steps above and click on the car icon then set it to the blue arrow.

Google hasn’t yet officially announced the new update, and so now, if you visit the company’s support pages, it says that “This feature is not available in Google Maps for Android.”

We post content related to Technology and exciting updates every day, so stay tuned! Also, share this article with all those who are waiting for this update.
