Forza Horizon 5 Install error code 0x80070005 on Xbox App/Microsoft Store: Fixes & Workarounds

How to fix the 0x80070005 error when installing FH 5.

If you’ve bought the game from the Xbox app or Microsoft Store and Forza Horizon 5 is giving you a 0x80070005 error code when installing, not to worry as there are fixes that you can try to install the game and play it. Keep reading the article to know more.

Delete Microsoft local cache files

Well, deleting the Microsoft Local Cache files can be useful in fixing the Forza Horizon 5 error code 0x80070005. Go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe. If you can’t see the AppData folder, it’s hidden. So, go to the upper left side of your screen while in the directory and then, click on “view” and check the “Hidden items” option. Then, you will be able to see the folder in the abovementioned path. So, delete the local cache folder and try installing the game again after a restart.

Rename WpSystem and WindowsApp folder.

Renaming the WpSystem and Windows app folder sometimes fixes the error on the Microsoft store and is something that you can try to fix it. Open the explorer on your PC and open D: drive, you’ll see the WpSystem. However, you won’t be able to rename it as you’ll get an error message. Right-click on the WpSystem folder and click on “Properties” and in the “Security” tab, click on the Advanced button. Now, click on Change, and in the object name input area, type “everyone” and then click on the Check Names option, and then, click on Ok. After that, click on the “replace owner on subcontainers and objects” checkbox and click on “Apply” and “Ok”.

Head back to D drive and once again, right-click on the WpSystem folder and once again, click on Properties\Security\Advanced. Here, click on the “Add” button and click on “select a principal” and type “everyone” and click on “Check Names” and click on “Ok”. In the basic permission, click on the full control checkbox and then click on “Ok”, and then click on “Apply” and once again click on “Ok”. Now you can rename the file as WpSystem.old.

Repeat the same method above for renaming the “WindowsApps” folder to “WindowsApps.old”. If you receive any error message while renaming it, launch task manager on your computer and in processes, find “Gaming Service”, right-click on it, and click on “End Task”. You can also end it by using the services tab. To do so, head to the start menu, type services, and click on the app, right-click on “Gaming Service” and click on “Stop”. After you’ve renamed the “WindowsApps” folder, start the “gaming service” again in the service tab.

Run the “wsreset” command

In the windows search box, type “wsreset” and click on the command. A black screen will open, don’t close this black screen and wait for some time until it goes away and it will open “Microsoft Store” automatically. Try installing Forza Horizon 5 after “Microsoft Store” opens.

Repair/Reset Microsoft Store/Xbox App.

If you’re unable to install the game from Microsoft Store, you can repair or reset the app. To do this, type “Windows Store” in the windows search box and right-click on it, and then click on “App Settings”. This will launch Windows Settings. Scroll down the window until you see the “Repair” option, click on it and it’ll take a few minutes to complete the process. Well, if you’re getting an error message after clicking on repair, click on the “Reset” button and after that, install the game again. Do the same thing with the Xbox app as well and see if it fixes the error or not.

Update Windows using Media Creation Tool

You can also update your Windows using the media creation tool to fix the Microsoft Store and Xbox app. If you have Windows 10, click on this link and if you have Windows 11, click here. Run the file once you’ve downloaded it and click on “Accept” and select “Upgrade this PC now” and click on “Next”. It will start downloading Windows 10/11 and its update, so you will have to wait until the installation is completed.

If you did everything right, you’ll see the “Ready to Install” option, and if you see “keep personal files and apps” checked, it means you won’t lose any files. Do the same for Windows 11 as well, only this time, click on the ISO file if you’ve launched the media creation tool and click on “Next”. Save the location to anywhere and click on the Save button. Head to the path where you saved the ISO file and open it, click on the setup.exe file and follow the installation process. Again, if you see the “keep personal files and apps” checked, it means you can proceed safely with the installation.

Install the game in C drive.

Well, if you are still facing the Forza Horizon 5 error 0x80070005 while installing the game on your system, then you must select the C drive to install the game to see if everything is running smoothly. Open Windows settings, and go to the “system tab” then click on “Storage” and then click on “Advanced storage settings”. After that, click on “Where new content is saved” and select C: drive under “new apps will save to”. Now, click on Apply and then try to install the game.
