Why the party chat is not functioning in Fortnite?

There are many underlying issues that can cause problems with party chat in Fortnite. Either it has something to do with the game or the issues with your microphone, adapter, or an outdated driver that seems to be the cause. Many players have voiced their complaints to Epic Games forums and it’s only a matter of time until the devs release an official fix to solve the party chat issue.

How to fix party chat not working in Fortnite?

If you’re having trouble with party chat not working in the game and are saddened by it, you can try out some of the fixes that we’ve mentioned in this article. With that being said, here are some of the fixes for party chat not working in Fortnite.

Update sound drivers

Updating sound drivers can help you fix some of the issues the game is having and we highly recommend you do so. To update sound drivers, follow the steps mentioned below in this article.

  • In the start menu search box, type Control Panel and open it. On the far right side of the screen, type “Device Manager” and open it.
  • Navigate below until you see “Audio inputs and outputs” and click on it, after locating your sound adapter, right-click on it and select “Update Driver”.
  • Click on Search automatically to update driver software.

Windows will start searching for the latest audio driver on the internet. Well, if it fetches the latest one, download and install it. Reboot your PC once you’ve done that and the party chat issue will no longer be in the game.

Check in-game settings

It is the most generic fix that in some cases has worked for many. There is a possibility that your in-game audio level is set to very low or muted under the in-game settings. Here’s how you can check the audio level in Fortnite.

  • Open Fortnite and in the main menu, go to the main menu and select “Settings”.
  • In the settings option, look for the Audio option and set the Voice Chat Input Device to default.
  • Close the game completely using Task Manager.
  • Click on the Windows taskbar and right-click on the speaker’s icon and then click on “Start Playback Devices”
  • Right-click on the primary speaker that you’re using and select “Set as a default communication device”.
  • Launch Fortnite again and in the Settings menu, go to Audio settings and switch the voice chat input device to your designed headset or speaker that you’re using.
  • Enable voice chat in the game and save the settings.

Once you’re done with all the steps above, reboot the game and check whether the voice chat issue is fixed or not.

Check Microphone

Make sure your microphone is having no issues as there is a possibility that it’s not functioning correctly. Here’s how to check the microphone.

  • In the start menu, type Control Panel and open it.
  • On the far right side of the window, search troubleshooting and click on it.
  • Click on the Recording Audio Option and start the troubleshooting process until it’s completed.
  • Once it’s completed, close the window and start Fortnite to check whether the issue is fixed or not
