Now that EA’s FIFA license has expired, the Redwood City-headquartered video game development and publishing studio has published its latest football title, EA Sports FC 24. Officially released on September 29, 2023, it’s available for all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. EA FC 24 once again continues EA’s tradition of releasing messy sports titles. While the bugs and errors this time around are fewer compared to previous titles, this hasn’t made them any less annoying. This guide in particular will help with the “Drop-in Matches not Working” issue in EA Sports FC 24.
For the uninitiated, Drop-in matches are kind of a quick play mode, hence the Drop-in title. These are online matches where ten users go against each other in a 5v5 matchup. It’s fun and quick. That’s what makes this mode so likable. And now, for some reason, this mode isn’t working as it should. What happens is that players either get kicked out of the matchmaking process or are just unable to find or join a match. So, is there a fix? Let’s find out!
EA Sports FC 24 Drop in Matches Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Well, these are the potential fixes we’ve got for the issue for now. Since EA has yet to release an official fix or even acknowledge the issue, follow these workarounds and hope one of them works in your favor.
Turn off crossplay –
For some players, turning off crossplay was the only thing that helped fix this issue. Do that first before moving on to other workarounds. In order to perform this workaround:
- Head to EA FC 24 Settings > Online Settings and select Matchmaking Options.
- Next, you will see two options – Approximate Location Matchmaking and Cross-play Enabled.
- Select the latter and switch from Yes to No.
Join a club –
By a stroke of luck, one player was able to bypass this issue by joining a random club. Since it worked for that player, it could work for you too. However, if this workaround doesn’t work, try another one.
Turn off Fill Teammates –
Another player resolved this issue by turning off the Fill Teammates option. However, there’s a caveat to this. You need at least one player on your team to be able to disable this option. Try inviting a friend and then disabling it.
Set Character Appearance to Default –
This is a very strange workaround. No doubt about that! But if it works, then you shouldn’t complain. u/MarMat8 suggested that the way to fix this issue was to simply set the in-game character’s appearance to its default one. It could be a placebo effect, but we suggest you try it at least once.
Check your internet connection and the game’s server status–
Since the issue here might be related to the game’s server, we suggest you check your internet connection and its server status. Do a restart of your router, and then reconnect it to your console or PC. Additionally, you can also perform a reset of the router in case restarting it doesn’t yield any helpful results. Likewise, visit the official EA SPORTS FC Direct Communication Twitter (X) handle to get the latest updates on the game’s server status.
Switch to a wired connection –
So far, if you’ve been using Wi-Fi to connect and play EA FC 24, switch to a wired connection instead. Ethernet is generally faster than Wi-Fi, with the added benefit of no interference. If you are unable to use Ethernet, try removing every other connection from the Wi-Fi except for the one that has the game running.
That’s the extent of our knowledge of this issue’s fixes. As we said earlier, this isn’t the only issue in the game. In fact, the cutscene lag and the stuttering issue have been equally devastating to the players’ enjoyability. Fortunately, we have a guide on that too; click here for more details.
