There are just a few days left (as of writing) until EA Sports FC 24 officially releases on September 29, 2023. But it seems like for some, that wait was boring, so they just decided to preorder the game and get early access. And now, that early access version is marred with countless major and minor issues that seriously need to be addressed quickly. As for us, we will be helping you deal with one of those issues in the game. The cutscenes lag and stutter problem, to be exact.
Finding the root cause behind this issue is like trying to find a microscopic needle in a giant, ever-expanding haystack. EA’s general incompetency in handling bugs in the past FIFA (now EA Sports FC) titles has been quite a sad sight. And this also continues with EA Sports FC 24, whose poor optimization has led to players demanding immediate fixes. So, does this issue have any fix? Let’s find out!
EA Sports FC 24 Cutscenes Lag & Stuttering Issues: Is there any fix yet
For now, you will have to satisfy yourself with these workarounds, as EA is yet to release an official fix. Try these out, and we are confident at least one of the potential workarounds will be able to get rid of this issue.
Vysnc and Cutscene quality –
It seems that for some players, turning on VSync helped mitigate the issue. So, we suggest you try this too. Just go to the Settings menu of EA FC 24 and then switch to the Display Configuration tab. Scroll down until you find the Vertical Sync option and turn it on. After this, make sure that the Cutscene Quality option is set to Full Frame Rate.
Tweak some in-game and Nvidia Control Panel settings –
One player was able to successfully resolve this issue by messing around with some in-game and NCP settings. However, know that if you do follow the same method, you will be playing the game in 60 FPS until an official fix of sorts is dropped by the developers. If that’s okay with you, then follow the given steps:
- First, go to in-game Settings and navigate to Display Configuration.
- Scroll down and set Vertical Sync to Off. Also, set the Frame Rate option to 60.
- Next, set both Rendering and Grass Quality settings to Medium while the Crowd Quality setting needs to be on Low. Lastly, switch Cutscene Quality to Full Frame Rate.
- After this, open the Nvidia Control Panel, and go to Manage 3D Settings. There, under the Global Settings tab, find Vertical Sync and set it to Fast.
- Launch the game and check if the stuttering issue during cutscenes persists.
Run the .exe as an administrator –
As stated here, this player fixed this issue by launching the game’s .exe file as an administrator instead of directly doing that through a launcher. If you haven’t tried it, do so and see if you get the same results. All you need to do is right-click on the .exe file of EA FC 24 and then select the Run as an administrator option. Additionally, as stated in the previous method, turn off VSync in the game, but make sure it is enabled for your GPU.
Turn off Hypermotion and other options –
Another player was kind enough to share their own fix in the same EA forum post. For this workaround, you only need to head to the in-game settings menu, go to the Visual tab, and turn off the following settings:
- Play Styles+Overhead Indicators
- HyperMotion Insight Overlays
- Scrolling Line Ups
Update GPU Drivers –
We highly suggest you upgrade your GPU drivers to the latest version. This might help with getting rid of those stutters and cutscene lags. The latest drivers for your GPU can be found on the official GPU manufacturer’s website. You can update the drivers through the official companion apps too.
Edit the config file –
A user suggested editing the game’s config file with the following parameters to get rid of any stuttering. Players will be able to find the config file in the following directory: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\FC 24. Here, you will find some folders and a single file named – fcsetup.ini. Open it using Notepad and configure the settings as shown below:
FULLSCREEN = 1
MSAA_LEVEL = 3
RENDERINGQUALITY = 3
RESOLUTIONWIDTH = 1920
RESOLUTIONHEIGHT = 1080
REFRESH_RATE = 60
WAITFORVSYNC = 0
MAX_FRAME_RATE = 0
WINDOWED_BORDERLESS = 0
STRAND_BASED_HAIR = 1
USE_GOAL_NETS_3D = -1
NIS_AT_FULL_FPS = 1
CROWD_QUALITY = 2
GRASS_QUALITY = 2
DYNAMIC_RESOLUTION = 0
If you have an Nvidia GPU, open the Nvidia Control Panel and head to Manage 3D settings. On the right side of the screen, select Program Settings and add EA Sports FC 24. Next, match your settings with the following:
- Power management mode – Prefer maximum performance
- Preferred refresh rate – Highest available
- Texture filtering – Anisotropic sample optimization – Off
- Texture filtering – Negative LOD bias – Allow
- Texture filtering – Quality – Quality
- Texture filtering – Trilinear optimization – On
- Threaded optimization – Auto
- Triple buffering – Off
- Vertical Sync – Adaptive
