The Dragon Ball Z franchise is one of the most popular anime in the world. It is a franchise that spans over decades with various movies, TV shows, toys, merchandise, etc. Likewise, there have been many game adaptations of the franchise. Many game adaptations of the Dragon Ball Z franchise have been focused mainly on the fighting aspect of the franchise.
Therefore, most of the Dragon Ball Z games are better categorized as Arcade/Fighting games. However, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is a departure in that aspect. The game does continue to feature many great elements of combat and fighting from other games in the franchise. But the main differential in Kakarot is the more streamlined focus on the different Dragon Ball Z storylines. This makes the game a more action-adventure RPG in that sense. The interweave of great stories and impactful combat mechanics also makes Kakarot one of the most engaging Dragon Ball Z games to date.
