Dota 2: How to check server status when servers are down

DOTA 2 is arguably one of the most popular games ever made with one of the largest and richest eSports leagues out there currently. It is an MMORPG, the same as League of Legends with its own set of characters, its own classes of champions, and unique gameplay that is different in enough aspects from LoL but similar enough to LoL that they can be played interchangeably. In this article, we are going to be taking a look at Dota 2: How to check server status when servers are down.

Dota 2: How to check server status when servers are down

DOTA 2 has been around for a really long time. It has been around for long enough to be one of the largest eSports events in the world with a prize pool of over 40 million across all tournaments in 2020. It has been around long enough to know and respect the value of servers and server-player connections. If their servers go down, millions of players will be unable to play the game and they will lose millions of dollars in watch time, in-game purchases and so on that makes it impractical to have servers that shut down often. Detailed below are some of the ways in which players can check if the game servers are truly down or if they have a local issue rather than the servers being down.

Dota 2: How to check server status when servers are down?

As with all online games, there are 2 main ways to check the status of the server in this game. The first and most reliable method is the official Twitter handle of the game where all updates, maintenance times, and server-related information is posted. The issues with the servers are usually posted as soon as they are discovered and are usually fixed equally as quickly with players being able to log back into the game in a matter of minutes. If there is no post a while after the server issue is noticed by the player, there is a good chance the issue is a local one and not a server-wide issue. The only drawback with the Twitter system is that the updates are not real-time and there is a discernable time difference between the server going down and it being noticed and tweeted by the team.

The second and more common method is the use of a 3rd party website to check for server status. These websites usually rely on user reports and are not as reliable as the trusty twitter method as the reports can be mistimed, misreported, or due to an error on the part of the website rather than the server itself. Players should look for a website with a well-detailed reporting mechanism, and regular refreshes of the website information for checking the server status of Dota 2.
