Airship Syndicate, the studio behind indie gems such as Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, is now back with another game. This time, it’s quite different from their usual releases. Wayfinder is an MMO title where you can customize your playstyle and even do the same with beasts that you can hunt and bosses you will get to face. For now, the game is set to release as an early-access title on Steam on August 17, 2023. Well, the developers have plans to do a full release after the game has received two full seasons of early access. As with any newly released title, there are certain things that players want to know about. In this case, it’s about Wayfinder being playable offline.
For certain people, being able to play a game offline is much preferable to having to connect to the internet and play. There are generally two main reasons behind this. The first is that internet connections aren’t available everywhere, and the other is simply that some players prefer playing a game alone. And in the case of Wayfinder, is it really possible to play it offline without an internet connection at all?
Can you play Wayfinder offline without an internet connection?
Unfortunately, you can’t play Wayfinder offline. As we stated earlier, Wayfinder describes itself as a MMO, and as such, it would be nigh impossible to play the game offline. In case you needed more proof, the game’s FAQ section specifically addresses this issue and states:
No, Wayfinder is an ever-changing world where social interactions are an integral part of the gameplay experience. You will need to be online to play.
This statement from Airship Syndicate pretty much clears all doubts regarding the offline playability of Wayfinder. So, if you were hoping for some kind of offline play, it’s better to abandon those thoughts right now.
Will there be some kind of offline playable mode in the future?
Well, we honestly don’t believe that Wayfinder developers will introduce some sort of offline mode in the future. There’s a reason the O in MMO stands for online rather than offline. All MMOs rely on the community aspect, and introducing an offline mode would be both a disservice to the genre and a futile effort from the developers.
In the What is Wayfinder section of the FAQ, the first sentence itself describes the game as “a character-based, online action role-playing game”. It’s safe to say that the chances of Airship Syndicate adding an offline mode to Wayfinder range from slim to none. However, at the end of the day, anything can happen in the gaming world. If the developers find a good enough reason to add offline mode to their game, then they will surely do so.
