Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege was released years ago in 2015 and, since then, has remained one of the best tactical shooters on the market. In fact, the Steam version of the game alone saw a 24-hour peak of about 63,506 players at the time of writing this. This is an incredibly healthy number for a game this old. And mind you, R6 also happens to be available on consoles, so the number of active players should be much higher. Speaking of R6 on consoles, many players seem to be quite curious about knowing if Hip Lean is available for them. And that’s what this guide will be focusing on.
Hip-leaning is used quite a lot in-game on PCs already since it’s extremely helpful in going against enemies positioned in corners and such. Matches in Rainbow Six Siege happen to be fast-paced so players need to kill each other fast and without taking much casualty on their side. That’s why control options like hip lean are made so much use of. As such, it’s only evident that console players would also want to use it if possible. So, is Hip Lean available on consoles? Well, continue reading to find out.
Can you hip lean on console in Rainbow Six Siege (R6)?
Well, you should be happy to know that you can indeed hip-lean on consoles in Rainbow Six Siege. But there’s a caveat to that. Hip-leaning on consoles is currently only available on the Lab Test Server of R6, so if you aren’t on the server, then you will need to wait a while. In particular, this feature happens to be scheduled for a mid-season release.
Hip-leaning on consoles happens to be a fairly new thing. When Rainbow Six Siege was launched for the console in 2015, Ubisoft didn’t add hip lean and since then, console players have been demanding its implementation. And all that complaining finally worked when Ubisoft announced hip lean in R6 for consoles, among many other things, in its Y8S3 Mid-Season Roadmap Update published in November 2023.
From what we have seen so far, players will get a Leaning Behavior option under Controller Options, which has two modes:
- “Default: when leaning while aiming, leaving aim cancels the lean.
- Alternate: when leaning while aiming, stopping aiming keeps player in lean, but must aim again to cancel lean”
So, those who want to use hip lean will need to set Leaning Behaviour to Alternate. Once set, your operator will continue to be in hip lean even after leaving ADS. Now, this could possibly be changed by the players to something else since Ubisoft has made controller remapping available for consoles with the release of the Operation Deep Freeze update. As such, when Hip Lean is finally released for the main servers, you can choose to either stick to the default controls or customize Hip Lean controls using controller mapping. All in all, right now all you need to do is wait for hip-leaning to release mid-season.
