Baldur's Gate 3 (III) How to change Language

Baldur’s Gate 3 is rich in lore and storytelling, where dialogue and on-screen texts play a crucial role in unraveling its complex plotlines. Immersion in the game heavily relies on understanding the language being used. However, some players are facing an issue where they can’t change the in-game language, which hampers their gaming experience. And since you clicked on this article, you too are looking for a way to change the language in Baldur’s Gate 3. Well, you have landed on the right page because that is exactly what we have shared in this guide.

So, what languages are supported in Baldur’s Gate 3? Well, the game has support for 13 different languages, including English, in all aspects (Interface, Full Audio, and Subtitles). That said, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Turkish, Portuguese (Brazil), Italian, Spanish (Latin America), Traditional Chinese, and Ukrainian, on the other hand, have interface and subtitles support but no full audio support (meaning no voice acting in these languages). With that out of the way, let’s get to the crux of this guide.

Baldur’s Gate 3 (III): How to Change Language

Baldur's Gate 3 (III) How to change Language

Where’s the fun if you do not understand the language being spoken or displayed in a game? Without a doubt, you will be missing out on a lot of lore and other important information. Well, since the option to change language isn’t present in-game, you will have to use the client software to do the same. That said, BG3 is currently available on Steam and the GOG Store. So, let’s see how to change the language in the game on each platform.

Steam

You can change the in-game language by heading to the properties tab of the game. But if you do not know how to do the same, don’t worry; we have got your back. Just follow the steps given below, and you will be good.

  • Open your Steam library and find Baldur’s Gate 3.
  • Right-click on the game and a menu will pop up. Choose “Properties“.
  • Inside the Properties menu, you’ll see a “General” tab. Here, look for the “Language” option.
  • Click on the drop-down menu next to “Language,” and a list of available languages will appear.
  • Choose the language you want to play in from the list. You can pick whichever language suits you best.

And there you have it! Your game language has been changed, and you’re ready to dive into the dialogues on your adventures in the chosen language. It’s as simple as that! However, if the selected language isn’t applied to the game, consider restarting Steam and checking again.

GOG

For players who got their copy of the game through the GOG store, you will need to follow the given steps:

  • Open GOG Galaxy and select Baldur’s Gate 3 from your game library.
  • On the game page, look for the settings icon located in the top-right corner, right beside the Play button.
  • Click on the Settings icon, and a menu will appear. From this menu, choose “Manage Installation.”
  • Under “Manage Installation,” select “Configure“.
  • A dropdown box will appear beside the “Language” option. Click on the drop-down box and choose your desired language from the available options.

Well, that is how you can change the language while playing Baldur’s Gate 3. Now, you will be able to enjoy and follow along with the subtitles in the language you prefer.
