Well, if you are wondering what a Soul Coin is in BG3 and how to use them in the game, consider reading until the end.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is filled with lots of secrets, puzzles, mysterious items, and such. True to the game it’s based on, i.e., Dungeons & Dragons, players will come across various in-game items during their playthrough. Some prove quite useful. So, what exactly is this Soul Coin? Let’s find out!
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Soul Coin: What are they & How to use
Soul Coins, as the name implies, are items in the shape of coins infused with souls. Their in-game description is:
Strange, incomprehensible whispers emanate from this coin, pervading your mind with rage and despair.
In Baldur’s Gate 3, they are quite a valuable item, so if you find or come across one, grab it and store it in your inventory. So far, it seems like these are only used for one specific thing: Powering Karlach’s infernal engine.
For the uninitiated, Karlach is one of the many origin characters in BG3 who happens to be a Tiefling Barbarian. You can recruit her into your party through your journeys in the world of Baldur’s Gate 3. A recent escapee from Hell, her one great desire is to find the person who sold her to Zariel when she was young. It was Zariel who replaced her heart with the Infernal Engine.
After recruiting her into your ever-expanding ragtag group, you can give her a Soul Coin from your inventory. When consumed, it will activate the Infernal Fury buff. This one is a passive buff that increases her attack dmg. But that’s not all. She’s also granted fire damage with her melee attacks. However, all this happens only when her HP drops below 25% or when she’s Raging. Note that if Karlach takes a rest, the buff will be gone, and she will have to consume another soul coin to get it back.
Finding Soul Coins
Save Nadira
You can get your first Soul Coin by saving the Tiefling Nadira. Go to a cliff’s edge in Emerald Grove, and there you will find her being attacked by a bugbear assassin. Here are the coordinates to her location if you are having trouble finding her – X: 244, Y: 447.
Now, you can choose to let the assassin kill her or even pickpocket her, but if you want to go the “good-guy” route and continue her storyline, we recommend saving her. Kill the assassin and obtain the coin from her by rolling for either a persuasion or intimidation check. You can also roll a deception check.
Dank Crypt
There are three Soul Coins in Dank Crypt. For the first one, go to the place where you met Shadowheart for the first time. You will see a door there. Go through it and then interact with the thing/object on the floor, preferably the one located right near a sarcophagus. Here are the coordinates: X: -303, Y: -331.
To get the other one, go to the room where you found the Book of the Dead Gods. Use a torch or any other illuminating spell since it’s very dark in there. Once there, search the sarcophagus in there to get the Soul Coin. Here are the coordinates for it: X: -322, Y: -272.
The final soul coin is located inside Wither’s sarcophagus in Dank Crypt. Once you find the sarcophagus, defeat the Acolytes that have woken up, and then wake up Withers so that you can loot his coffin. The soul coin will be one of the many items that you can get from his coffin. That said, we hope you find this guide informative. For more such guides, make sure to follow DigiStatement.
