No one would’ve guessed that Larian would go on to produce a game so great that it would essentially take the niche CRPG genre to new heights. But here we are. It’s clear that Baldur’s Gate 3 is Game of the Year material and, for all intents and purposes, a modern CRPG masterpiece. One that could be counted among the likes of Disco Elysium and Divinity: Original Sin 2 in recent years. However, BG3 is not without its fair share of issues. Recently, the player base seems to have encountered a new issue, the Blood of Lathandar not working.
Contrary to its name, the Blood of Lathandar isn’t an elixir or potion; rather, it’s a weapon—a mace, to be exact. And what a weapon it is. It’s a +3 legendary-tier mace that, besides sending enemies to their afterlife, also serves as a utility weapon. It has three powerful magical effects called Lathander’s Blessing, Sunbeam, and Lathander’s Light. We wouldn’t be expanding on these abilities, as that’s a topic for another time, but what you essentially need to know is that its Lathander’s Light ability is very useful in the dangerous Shadowlands. How? Well, the light emitted by this weapon can protect you in that godforsaken place. However, as per reports, although the light from the weapon keeps shining, players remain unprotected from the Shadow Curse and their HP continues to degrade. So, is there a fix for this issue? Let’s find out!
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Blood of Lathandar Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Well, in case you are encountering this issue, here are a few workarounds you can try. The first workaround describes why the issue occurs in the first place, so continue reading.
Blood of Lathandar doesn’t work in the deeper areas of Shadowlands –
One thing every player should know is that Blood of Lathandar will only work in the initial areas of the Shadowlands. If you venture too deep into those treacherous areas with only the Blood of Lathandar, death will be certain. Something like a Moonlantern or Pixie’s Blessing will be much better for those areas.
Unequip and equip –
Now, if you are in the beginning areas of the Shadowlands, and the Blood of Lathandar still doesn’t work as intended, then we suggest that you unequip it. Once you have done that, go into your inventory and then promptly equip it back. Now, see if the issue persists. If it does, then follow the next workaround.
Reload a previous save –
Another workaround that we recommend is reloading a previous save. Since you will be save scumming a lot through the entire game, we are sure you wouldn’t have much trouble trying this particular workaround. Additionally, players can also learn the save file location of Baldur’s Gate 3 by going through this guide.
Restart Baldur’s Gate 3 –
While restarting doesn’t guarantee any result, we still suggest you try it at least once. Quite a lot of issues can be dealt with by a simple restart, and this might be the case here. However, if you find that the issue still remains, then try out the next workaround.
Repair the game –
One of the reasons why the weapon might be bugged could simply be that certain important files are missing. The best way to resolve this issue is to repair the game. Just open Steam and then navigate to Library. Next, find and right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 and select Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files. Now, let Steam do the rest of the work. After the scan, launch the game and check if the issue persists.
That said, we hope that by following these workarounds, the Blood of Lathander not working issue gets fixed in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you find this guide informative, check out DigiStatement for more such interesting guides. Also, read: Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3): How to Use WASD to Move Characters?
