Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Steam Deck Best Settings for High FPS & Low Input Lag

Massive Entertainment’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was just released on December 7, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. This happens to be the second Avatar game in the entire franchise and is certainly miles better than the first one. AFoP is another new open-world action-adventure title, and looking at reviews, Massive seems to have done a good enough job in developing it. Although the game is nothing revolutionary, fans of the Avatar franchise will certainly enjoy a good time playing it. Especially when the game can be played on the Steam Deck. However, due to the lack of optimization and official Steam Deck support, the game runs quite poorly on the handheld device. As such, many Steam Deck users want to know the best settings that can get them good FPS. If you are wondering the same, continue reading.

The Steam Deck is quite a capable device when it comes to running AAA titles. While not as powerful as some of its competitors, it still manages to run games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, and many others at respectable FPS. And Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora being one of the newest titles out there, it’s only evident that players would want to try out the game on their Decks. Well, although the game runs on the Steam Deck (barely), its performance can, however, be somewhat improved with the right settings.

One thing you should know about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is that to play the game on the Steam Deck, you would have to get Ubisoft Connect first. Once it’s installed, purchase the game from there and install it. It’s due to this that the game’s category remains Unsupported for now on the Deck.

Well, before starting with the in-game settings, we highly recommend you update your Deck to the latest OS version. SteamDeck OS 3.5 has some neat features that will make your experience with the Deck even more fun. So go ahead and update it, if you haven’t done so already. Once that’s done, launch the game, and head over to the Settings menu. Now, match these settings as shown:

  • Window Mode: Borderless Fullscreen
  • Aspect Ratio: Native
  • Resolution: 1280 x 800

  • Destruction Quality: Low
  • Terrain Tessallation: Low

You can also use the following FPS Cap launch command: MANGOHUD_CONFIG=”fps_limit=30,no_display” mangohud %command% for more stable gameplay.

As we stated earlier, remember to update your Steam Deck. If Ubisoft does make the game optimized for the Deck, then you can expect better performance. But for now, the aforementioned settings are the recommended ones to get a decent enough experience of the game on your Deck.

Well, that’s all for this guide. Additionally, if you want to know how to set up CryoUtilities on your Deck, check out this guide. And as always, don’t forget to follow DigiStatement. Also read: King Arthur Knight’s Tale Steam Deck Support details
