Scam calls are not a new thing nowadays. Hundreds of thousands of people have suffered a lot because of scam calls and the fraud people on the other side have been able to loot thousands to millions of money from people in a short span of time. This method is called phishing.
Now, it doesn’t matter if someone is an Android or Apple user. Everyone is facing this issue. And now, even the users of Apple are becoming a victim of this problem. Phishing is the fraudulent attempts to get any sort of personal information from you. Scammers can use any means like spoofed emails and texts, misleading pop-up ads, fake downloads, calendar spam and phony phone calls and can trick you to share your personal information like your Apple ID password or credit card numbers.
Now, it is important for you to know how you can report these scam calls. Scammers can spoof legitimate company phone numbers and use flattery and threats to pressurize you for providing them information, money and also iTunes gift cards. In case if you receive an unsolicited or suspicious phone call from a person who claims himself or herself from Apple, the first thing you need to do is hang up the call. You can then report these fraudulent tech support calls to Federal Trade Commission (U.S. only). You can do that at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov or to the local law enforcement agency near your area. Also, you can register at https://www.donotcall.gov/.
In case if you have received an email that is designed in a way that can make you think that it is from Apple, you can send it at reportphishing@apple.com. For reporting spam and other suspicious emails that you receive at iCloud.com, me.com or mac.com Inbox, send them at abuse@icloud.com.
Additionally for your help, if you want to avoid phishing and other kinds of scams, if you get to see a message that your iPhone, Mac or other Apple device has a virus, or a person calls and claims himself or herself from Apple and asks for any sort of personal information from you, follow these steps –
1. Firstly, you need to protect your Apple ID. For that, use the two-factor authentication, keep your contact information secure and updated and don’t share your Apple ID password and verification codes with others. Apple never asks for any sort of the above-mentioned information from anyone.
2. You must know how to identify legitimate Apple emails related to your App Store or iTunes Store purchases.
3. It is better not to use App Store, iTunes and Apple Store Gift Cards for making other types of payments.
4. In case if you are sending or receiving money with Apple Pay (U.S. only), you must treat it like any other kind of private transaction.
5. Secure your Apple devices and the data stored.
6. Don’t share any personal information like credit card numbers till you verify that the recipient is actually the person he or she is claiming to be.
7. It is better not to follow links and open and save attachments in suspicious or unsolicited messages.
