The long-running Age of Wonder series is finally back with the release of the fourth installment – Age of Wonders 4. Published by Swedish game development and publishing studio, Paradox Interactive, Age of Wonders 4 launched the same day as Arkane’s Redfall. AoW4 is currently available to play on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Fans of the 4x genre can rejoice as AoW4 is a great game, unlike many recent releases. It’s safe to say that AoW4 is another strategy title to spend thousands of hours alone and with friends. However, there have been reports of multiplayer not working in the game.
It’s good to see strategy titles get more recognition. Age of Wonders series itself is a particularly niche title, so to see people enjoying the game as it is particularly nice. On Steam it’s got a “Mostly Positive” review from players, with most praising the combat of the game and overall presentation. Since the game can be played with friends and family, there’s a lot of excitement around it. But the multiplayer not working issue has been a big problem for players. Age of Wonders 4 Multiplayer Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Judging by the Reddit and Steam discussion page posts, it seems like most of the problem around multiplayer is due to server overload. A massive increase in sales, which the devs weren’t expecting admittedly, led to the devs doing everything they could to take in the numerous players trying their game. Fortunately, the developers are aware of this issue and are actively working on it. Nonetheless, if you happen to be facing multiplayer issues in the game, here are some potential workarounds you can try.
Check your internet connection –
Since this is a server issue, you should check if your internet connection is working properly or not. See to it that the connection is stable, and fast.
Restart AoW4 –
You can also try restarting the game if you are unable to get into the multiplayer mode. As simple of a method as it is, sometimes it does work in solving issues.
Disable VPN –
If you’ve got a VPN enabled, it’s recommended that you disable it. VPNs can interfere with your connection and can even slow down your internet speed. So, you should disable your VPN and then try playing the multiplayer mode in Age of Wonders 4.
Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi –
We recommend that you use Ethernet instead of relying on Wi-Fi. Ethernet is generally better when it comes to speed, and you don’t really have to worry about physical interference. Do check that your Ethernet cable is working properly.
Disconnect other devices if using Wi-Fi –
If for some reason you are only able to use Wi-Fi, you should disconnect any other devices connected to it except for the one in which you are running AoW4. Now, open the game and access the multiplayer mode to see if the issue still persists.
Wait it out –
As the game’s servers are overwhelmingly filled with players, resulting in an overload, consider waiting for some time. After a while, you can try again, and maybe you will be able to access the game’s multiplayer mode.
