The common practice for reducing lag is to lower the graphics. However, image texture matters when playing a game. The following tips will give you many ways to improve the game performance without performing the conventional methods in The Sims 4.

Delete Unused Households

  • Launch the Sims 4 game on your PC.
  • Click on Load Game.
  • Open a saved game file.
  • Check if you have any houses build which you want to keep.
  • To save the house that you build, load that file.
  • Go into the build mode from the option present in the top-right corner of the screen.
  • Click on Save to My Library option on the top of the screen.
  • A window will appear. Locate the Save lot to Library option on the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Now, exit to the main menu.

Repeat the steps for any household that you want to keep. Then, simply go inside the Load Game option and delete those files. This will free up space and your game will run comparatively smoother.

To delete the files, click on the small red cross present on top of the thumbnails. Then, a confirmation message will pop up. Click on the tick icon to delete the files.

Delete Duplicate Lots

  • On the home screen, click on the Library icon located beside the options button on the right side of the screen.
  • Select the duplicate library that you want to delete.
  • Click on the trash bin icon present on the bottom-left of the lot detail screen.
  • Then, click on the tick icon to confirm the delete action.

Disable Online Features

  • In the game, open the Options menu.
  • Navigate to Game Options and then go to the Other tab.
  • Uncheck the box for Online Features Access.
  • If you wish, you can also disable the in-game surveys feature.
  • Now, click on Apply Changes.

At a later time, if you wish to access any other saved household, enable the Online Access from the game options. Download the file that you need, then disable it again.

Delete Cache Files

Before deleting the cache files, close the game as well as the Origin client. Also, if your PC asks for administrative access to delete the files, click on confirm.

  • Open the Documents directory on your PC.
  • Open the EA folder and go inside The Sims 4 game folder.
  • Delete the localthumbcache.package file.
  • Now, go to the drive where your Operating System is stored.
  • Go inside the ProgramData folder and then open the Origin folder.
  • Delete all the folders whose name ends with Cache. For example, delete the AchievementCache, CatalogCache, etc folders.

Free disk Space

It is very common for games to underperform if the drive is full-on which the game is installed. Generally, people install the game on the C drive itself. In that case, try to uninstall any unused applications from your PC. Also, clear out the Downloads folder and the recycle bin as well.

Any mod that you apply for the game is stored in your Documents folder. Open this PC on your computer and right-click on the Documents from the left-side menu. Click on Properties and navigate to the Location tab. Click on the Move button and then select a drive that has free space. This way, you get to keep all your mod files and free up the default drive at the same time.

You should know that the desktop is also located in the C drive. Hence, it is advised not to keep any large media or game files on the Desktop. Try to move the files that are taking up a lot of space to other drives. The same concept is applicable for the Images and Videos folder that is present by default with the Operating System.

These tips will improve the gaming performance and reduce the lags in The Sims 4. On the other hand, the specifications of your device play a vital role in determining the performance. If you have a very low-spec PC, then you might not feel any considerable change. You can also check out their official Twitter page for additional details.
