2021 promises to be a really loud year for the video game industry: many new titles and sequels have already been announced, and even more developers are just preparing their announcements. High-profile franchises like Persona, The Legend of Zelda and Metroid will be celebrating their anniversaries, and the developers are unlikely to ignore it. But even without them, there is enough to choose from: we have collected more than four dozen games, which will be released next year.
Hitman 3 – January 20 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)
Completion of the new trilogy “The World of Assassins”. Developers from IO Interactive declare the game as a “platform for the entire series” and will transfer the previous parts to the updated engine. However, it won’t do without new maps and missions.
The Medium – January 28 (PC, Xbox Series X/S)
One of the first nextgen horror films from the reputable Bloober Team studio. The key feature of the game will be the simultaneous rendering of two parallel worlds, between which the user can switch at any time. The plot tells the story of a medium girl who investigates the mysterious murder of a child in an abandoned hotel.
Returnal – March 19 (PS5)
A roguelike shooter set on an unknown planet. A shipwrecked woman is forced to try again and again to escape from this trap, time after time bringing her back to life after each death.
Monster Hunter Rise – March 26 (Switch)
The first of two announced games in the Monster Hunter franchise. Play, as always, is for the hunters, who are forced to fight with giant monsters. A key feature of the new game will be the emphasis on verticality, which was practically not in the series before.
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story – Q1 2021 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch)
The first single-player game in the League of Legends universe. The developers promise a strong emphasis on the plot. You will be controlled by heroes familiar from the MOBA. The game itself will be based on tactical turn-based battles, combined with a narrative in the spirit of visual novels, and six heroes will have to uncover the secret of the deadly black fog.
Deathloop – May 21 (PC, PS5)
Stylish first-person action from the studio that brought us Dishonored and Prey. In a retro-futuristic world, two assassins engage in a strange struggle: one commits crimes to stop the time loop, and the other kills in the name of saving it. The game will be a temporary PS5 console exclusive.
Far Cry 6 – May 25 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One)
The new part of the Ubisoft franchise will send players to the totalitarian island of Yara during the nascent revolution. By tradition, the newcomer will have to help the rebels overthrow the brutal dictator Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito. The date should be treated with skepticism: it is in the Microsoft Store, but Ubisoft has not yet given official confirmation.
God of War: Ragnarok – Throughout the Year (PS5)
Continuation of the 2018 relaunch of the franchise. At the moment, there are no details about the game, but the plot is expected to continue the adventures of Kratos and his son Atreus.
Hogwarts Legacy – throughout the year (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One)
A game in the Harry Potter universe, the events of which take place a hundred years before the appearance of the boy who survived. Players will be able to independently create a wizard for themselves, go through the initiation rite and go to study at the school of magic, which children around the world dream of.
STALKER 2 – throughout the year (PC, Xbox Series X / S)
A game that needs no introduction. According to the developers from GSC Game World, the sequel will combine a shooter, immersive simulator and horror, and will also allow you to plunge into one of the largest open worlds in history. There are no other details at the moment, but in the near future, the developers promise to start sharing new game details.
