Pokemon GO has been suffering from this debilitating bug for a while now. The screen just freezes up and shows a White Screen but the fix is found. The fix doesn’t even need a restart of the app!
One of the highest-grossing games ever, Niantic’s Pokemon GO has seen success even through quarantine. The game has seen a period of changes to incentivize players to stay indoors and play from their homes in the last few months. But the game itself is a live free to play and with millions of players. That brings a fair share of problems. Most of the time, Niantic swiftly kills a bug or rolls out an issue but this one pestering bug has been keeping at trainers for a while now.
The whole issue with the bug was that it is so common and prevalent that it took some time for players to talk about it. Usually, a bug gets a Reddit post within an hour or two of its detection. This bug happens when a player clicks on a Pokemon which is going to despawn. This causes a blank white screen and you have to restart the game to start playing again.
White Screen Bug Solution
The solution here was found by u/whoneedsselfesteem, now the fix isn’t exactly permanent and the bug doesn’t disappear. But at least you will not have to restart the app. The Redditor found that clicking randomly across the screen and tapping on another Pokemon on the game forces you back into the game, temporarily fixing the problem.
Since the white screen bug does not really crash the app, the screen is live in the background. You clicking randomly and selecting another Pokemon or Pokestop will refresh the app. As soon as you do this, you will be able to see the game and not the blank screen. It is still annoying to deal with though and there might be times when you don’t have anything to click on. So if you blindly tapping does not fix it, please restart the app. Hopefully, Niantic works out a permanent solution soon!
