Baldur’s Gate 3 just might be one of the best games released this year. With its tried and tested Dungeons and Dragons setting and gameplay filled to the brim with tons of possibilities, it’s no wonder fans are rating it so highly. Now, in the game, it’s not just the enemies that are after you. What if we told you that there are curses in the game? Well, since you clicked on this article, you must be wanting to deal with one specific curse, the Shadow Curse. Well, keep reading to find out how to get protection against it.
The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is bleak, hostile, and even cursed. If you have progressed enough to make it to the second act of the game, you surely must have seen the Shadowlands. As the name suggests, this place is engulfed by shadow, and light sources seem to be scarce. But that is not all; if you venture for far too long in the shadows, you’ll notice your health slowly degrading. This is the Shadow Curse in action. Now, as a player, the next thing you want to do is learn how to deal with it. Well, that is exactly what we will be discussing in this article.
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Shadow Curse: How to get protection against it
Now, there are a couple of ways to deal with the shadow curse in BG3. More importantly, there are permanent solutions and temporary ones as well. That said, we will be discussing both here.
Temporary Solutions
First, let us have a look at some temporary ways to protect your character from the shadow curse.
- Torches: As you might have guessed, carrying a torch will keep the darkness at bay, thereby saving your character. But remember, this is not substantial. Wonder off too far into the darkness, and a small, lit torch will not be enough to keep the curse in check. So, use this method with the utmost care.
- Light Spells: Logically, you can have a character use some kind of light spell to light up the environment, thereby avoiding the curse. Dancing Light, for example, is a spell that you can use to illuminate dark areas.
- Blessing of the Selune: To get this, you will need to engage in a series of conversations with Jaheira, followed by Isobel at the Last Light Inn. These discussions hold the key to unlocking the Blessing of Selune and channeling its radiant might to deal with the Shadow curse. However, even this cannot protect you from the darkest regions of the Shadowlands.
Permanent/Better Solutions
Here, we have mentioned much more effective ways to combat the Shadow Curse. However, getting your hands on the items required to negate the Shadow Curse permanently is not easy and will require a bit of effort from the players’ end.
- Moonlantern/Pixie’s Blessing: Karn’niss, an ally, possesses a Moonlantern, and you can kill him and loot the lantern from his body. Moreover, a second Moonlantern awaits discovery within the Moonrise Tower. After you get your hands on one, you can examine the lantern to find a poor Pixie trapped inside it. Now, you have two choices: keeping the Pixie caged and using the Moonlantern as it is, or freeing the pixie, which in turn will reward you with a blessing that is extremely useful in cutting through the darkness and protecting your character from the Shadow Curse.
- Lift the Shadow Curse sidequest: Finally, you can remove the curse altogether from the Shadowlands if you complete the Lift the Shadow Curse sidequest. This will make your life much easier while completing the campaign in the Shadowlands.
