After being in Early Access for quite some time, Wartales 1.0 was recently released on Steam, and fans couldn’t be happier. The game pits players into the medieval world where survival is the key, and honor is nowhere to be found. Featuring new elements in the open-world RPG genre, Wartales has managed to make its mark in the current era of gaming. However, not all fans are happy with the title, and that’s because it lacks some basic features. Anyways, in this article, we will be looking into the details of whether Wartales is Steam Deck compatible, or do players face issues while trying to run it on the handheld. So, without any further ado, let’s jump right into it.
The Steam Deck is arguably one of the most unique and popular handheld gaming consoles right now. Developed by Valve, this device is capable of running almost all AAA titles, on top of having a form factor similar to the Nintendo Switch. The portability it offers has made this device a fan favorite as players can play their favorite games on the go without having to rely on bulky setups for gaming. But, as the Steam Deck is just over a year old, not every game is compatible with it. So, what about Wartales? Is it compatible with the Steam Deck? Well, the answer is a bit complicated.

Wartales Steam Deck Compatibility Details & More
Yes, Wartales is compatible with the Steam Deck, as many have tried and played the game on the handheld console. However, there comes a big caveat. If you didn’t know, Wartales doesn’t come with controller support. Due to this, even if you run the game on the Steam Deck, you won’t be able to efficiently play it with the deck’s analog sticks and have to use the trackpads for navigation. Although this is playable, you won’t be getting the authentic Steam Deck experience since using the trackpads to play the game isn’t quite optimal.
You can also connect your keyboard and mouse to the Steam Deck (Desktop mode), and then play the game for a much better experience. But, that totally negates the portability factor of the Steam Deck, as players will have to station their Deck on a surface, and then use the keyboard/mouse inputs to control the in-game character. So, despite the fact that you can play Wartales on a Steam Deck using a keyboard/mouse, or via the Deck’s trackpads, the inability to play the game using the built-in analog sticks can be a deal-breaker for many.
But, we do think that the devs are quite aware of this situation and would eventually bring controller support for their game soon. The demand for controller support in Wartales has been rising steadily so it is just a matter of time before the devs include it. All we can do now is wait for official information regarding the same. Till then, you can visit DigiStatement to get the latest updates on everything related to gaming.
