If you are new to 7 Days to Die, the building aspect of the game might come as a surprise to you. But hey, while fending off zombies in the wild, you do need a place to crash right? Well, with the building mechanic, you have the option to construct your base. Now, for someone jumping into the 1.0 release or revisiting the game, changing the shape of your building blocks may come off as a challenge. Well, don’t worry! We have got you covered.

Changing the shape of blocks is a must when you are focused on construction and base defenses. If you are in a creative mood and want to design structures that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust, you will have to make use of all the available shapes. Also, with the 1.0 release, there has been some touch-up to the block shapes as well. What’s new?

The latest update in 7 Days to Die brings in a lot of new block shapes. With 162 new shapes added, you will now have more options for roofs, railings, poles, and stairs. New shapes include wedge stairs railings in both standard and metal forms, extended ramp sets of 6m and 8m, a complete Wedge60 Windows set, and both broken and empty versions of bulletproof windows used in Points of Interest (POIs). And that is not all! The new Radial Menu option, “Copy Shape And Rotation”, makes the building process a lot easier as you can now quickly duplicate and align blocks with precision.

How to change the shapes?

Changing block shapes in 7 Days to Die is easy! Just follow the steps given below.

  • Select the Block: Start by Equipping the block you want to place from your inventory.
  • Open the Shape Menu: Once equipped, the selected box will appear on your screen. During this period, hold down the reload button. By default, this is the ‘R’ key on your keyboard.
  • Access the Shape Option: While holding down the reload button, move your mouse to highlight the “Shape” option in the radial menu that appears.
  • Choose the Desired Shape: Once the Shape menu is open, you will see a variety of available shapes. Scroll through the list to find the shape you need. For example, if you want to create stairs, look for a shape resembling stairs.
  • Select the Shape: Click on the desired shape to select it. The block in your hand will now change to the chosen shape.
  • Place the Block: Position the block where you want it and place it as you normally would by clicking the left mouse button.
