Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (ToTK): How to get Master Sword

May 12 marked the launch of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Zelda franchise is known for putting out masterpieces with each installment, and this time, the fact remains true. Tears of the Kingdom is both a creative and technical masterpiece by Nintendo, and the fans can’t get enough of it. ToTK expands upon Breath of the Wild’s gameplay mechanics and masterfully enhances them. Leading to a game filled with fun and interesting stuff. ToTK also continues with the narrative of the previous game, as it takes place some years after the events of the last game. Now, one central aspect of both games has been Link’s, Master Sword. And it seems like, in Tears of the Kingdom, the Champion of Hyrule’s trusty sword is broken and missing, prompting Link to get it back again.

The Master Sword is central to the story of Zelda. And it’s as important as the Triforce itself. In Breath of the Wild, it’s the only weapon that doesn’t break. It does run out of energy though. Through the years and the games, it has been Link’s one and only trusty weapon, having clashed with and destroyed countless foes. In this new timeline, it plays an equally important role. But as seen from the trailers and reading materials, the Master Sword appears to be broken at the start of the game. So, how do you get the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom? Let’s find out!!

Unlike Breath of the Wild, finding the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom is a bit difficult. To get the legendary sword, players will need to search for the Light Dragon and then hop on its back to retrieve the Master Sword. Do note that you will need to have two full stamina wheels if you want to get the Master Sword. And using yellow stamina (extra stamina gained from eating certain foods) won’t work.

There are two ways through which you can take hold of the sword again. One is linear, and the other is not. The linear step will have you start the “Recovering the Hero’s Sword” main quest. Just get to the Korok Forest, defeat the Phantom Ganon there, and the quest will start after you have a quick chat with the Deku Tree. Start the quest, and you will see the Light Dragon’s location on your map.

The non-linear way is simply by stumbling upon the Light Dragon. While there is more than one dragon in the game, recognizing the Light one wouldn’t be much of a problem since it has a distinct blue aura around its head.

Now, the hard part is landing on the body of the Light Dragon. We recommend you use the nearest Skyview Tower or any nearby Sky Island to paraglide. Aim for the body and land before the dragon flies away. Once on the body, walk towards its head, where you will see the Master Sword lodged hard. Start the retrieval sequence by clicking on the button prompt. If you have a full two stamina wheels, then you should be successful in getting the Master Sword back. Just wait for a cutscene to play, and next, you will find the Master Sword safe and sound in your inventory.
