Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (ToTK): How to beat Obsidian Frox

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the latest title from Nintendo. After making Zelda fans wait for a total of six years, it was finally released on May 12, 2023. And players are loving it. Tears of the Kingdom improves a lot upon Breath of the Wild and is, at times, better than its predecessor. Since it’s such a new release, there are a lot of unknown factors about the game. One among them is the minibosses in Tears of the Kingdom. The Obsidian Frox is one such miniboss and has been giving a hard time to some players.

Breath of the Wild had very few minibosses compared to Tears of the Kingdom. And when it came to the difficulty of those bosses in Breath of the Wild, the only remarkable ones were the Lynels. However, Tears of the Kingdom corrected that mistake. This time, the minibosses are a lot harder and have varying difficulty. The Obsidian Frox is a newly introduced miniboss in ToTK and can be difficult to deal with, if not equipped with proper gear and strategy. And so, here is a guide that will help you take down this beast in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As we said earlier, the Obsidian Frox is one of the many minibosses in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The miniboss can only be encountered in the depths, so the Sky Islands and Hyrule’s “upper world” are out of the question. The Obsidian Frox resembles a frog in terms of appearance and has a giant eye like the other miniboss, Hinox.

Well, to initiate a fight with the Obsidian Frox, you must locate it first. It can be found in the East Akkala Plains Chasms at the following coordinates: 4022, 2182, -0440. Now, like all other minibosses, defeating the Obsidian Frox will net you a bunch of materials. These can be used for upgrading gear and other stuff. But first, you would need to defeat it.

As soon as you come in contact with the Obsidian Frox, equip your bow and attach the Zonai ‘Time Bomb’ device to your arrows, and fire them at the black rocks on the Frox’s back. After a while, the bombs will detonate, taking a chunk of its health and making the Frox incapacitated. Climb on top of the creature as soon as possible while it is knocked out, and use your melee attacks to damage the black rocks.

The boss performs a “suction” attack regularly, during which you should fire the “Time Bomb Arrow ” or an arrow fused with a bomb flower to fire at the Frox’s mouth. The boss will eat the arrow attack and will become incapacitated again when the bomb explodes. Additionally, you can also shoot arrows at its eye to stun it. The key thing here is to attack the black rocks, as destroying all of them will end the fight. When defeated, you will be rewarded with Zonaite, Large Zonaite, Frox Fingernail, Obsidian Frox Fang, Large Crystallized Charge, and Frox Guts.

Remember to bring an ample amount of Brightbloom Seeds to light the area during your fight since you will be fighting in the dark at the East Akkala Plains Chasms. Anyway, for more guides like this on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, follow DigiStatement.
