X Plane 12: How to cap FPS?

While X Plane 12 is not too demanding of a game, it still uses tons of system resources. So, a lot of players like to cap the FPS so that the game does not lag or stutter. But, there are some players who have been unable to do so. It is not surprising because the game has so many options and settings that it is easy to get lost. But, it is also important to cap your FPS if you want a smooth performance. So, if you are looking for the right instructions, then you have come to the right place.

X Plane 12 is one of the best realistic flight simulator video games. It is often compared with Microsoft Flight Simulator which is considered top-of-the-line. The newest installment to the series brings quite a few changes. There are a lot of new features as well as better aircraft models. The AI is also way better than the previous games. X Plane 12 has lots of sceneries that you can download separately. This allows you to explore the world one by one and also save disk space. While the game does not feature too many issues, capping FPS is what many players are looking for to ensure that it runs smoothly on their system. So, we have provided all the information on the same, below.

Surprisingly, there is no way to cap your FPS in X Plane 12 through the in-game settings. So, you will need to use NVIDIA’s Control Panel in order to manually cap the FPS to your desired level. We have mentioned all the required steps that will allow you to do so. Follow the instructions and tweak the correct settings.

Note: The steps shared are relevant to users of Nvidia GPUs.

1) Press the Windows key and type NVIDIA Control Panel.
2) Now, go to the 3D Settings tab.
3) Next, click on the Manage 3D Settings option.
4) Go to the Program Settings tab and click on the Select a Program to Customize option.
5) This will open a new window. From here, browse X Plane 12’s executable file.
6) Now, look for the “Specify the settings for this program” option.
7) Next, set the Max Frame Rate option to On and then select your desired FPS.
8) At last, click on OK and then on Apply.

Once you do this, it will cap X Plane 12’s FPS to the one that you selected from the settings. You can also change the Global Settings in NVIDIA’s Control Panel. This will cap the FPS of all the video games that you play. As this process was for users with Nvidia GPUs, the same can be done via AMD’s Radeon software. Well, this brings us to the end of this article. We hope that you found it helpful. Stay tuned to Digi Statement, and happy gaming.
