WWE 2K20 suffered a miserable launch, gaining a rating of 5/10 on Steam. Filled with flawed gameplay and n number of bugs caused a serious disappointment amongst the fan base. Now everything from here on out is pure speculation. Fans are worried that developers won’t be able to adapt to the next-gen consoles and WWE 2K21 will become the final nail in the coffin. Here is everything we know so far about the roster and eventual release date.
WWE 2K21 Roster: CM Punk set to return?
The controversy around CM Punk lost him a place in the roster in the 2K16 game. Yet he made a return in November 2019 as an analyst on the internet show WWE Backstage. The terms of his exile for life seems to have been broken, giving the fans hope of an in-ring comeback. But nonetheless, now that the exile seems to be behind, 2K must have surely approached a fan favourite wrestler for inclusion in the Roster.
Other new names you can expect on the WWE 2K21 roster include John Morrison, who in January 2020 returned to WWE TV, and main roster newcomers Riddick Moss and Angel Garza. Chad Gable’s new gimmick, Shorty G, will also be included for the first time.
WWE 2K21 Release date
Expect a release date of October or later. Off recent times, WWE release dates have not adhered to a consistency, unlike FIFA or NBA. 2K10 came out 9th October, 2K20 came out on 22nd October. 2K20’s launch was a disaster, the game was still front lining some issues and bugs but a rushed release put it on the spot for disaster.
Now an earlier release date than the next-gen consoles would be unwise looking at the recent performances. Early 2021 release gives them time and space to check if the game doesn’t tank out on next-gen consoles.
Gameplay Predictions
The problem with every sports game that releases on a yearly schedule. Trying to completely overhaul an entire game in a year is nearly impossible. Even if the groundwork is already laid. Find a good system and make small tweaks. Of course, none of these games should be 60 bucks every year either. Not to mention the extra 60 people spend on roster extras and ultimate team style modes in other games. The sports gaming world is so badly managed by a publisher and consumer standpoint. $60 a year for a roster update and yet we all typically buy them without thinking about it.
4 months back the Visual Concepts suffered a budget cut and release of a few long-standing developers. This might be the reason why we see them playing safe and guarded for the next game. “2K20 is selling poorly, it’s doing poorly all around,” continues Leeper. “That means the budget is going to be cut. It means 2K21 is gonna have to be made for less money. Less money to fix things, innovate, and now there are about 10 fewer people on the team. As you can tell, the outlook is not good for 2K21.”
Let’s see and hope for good news by developers but the current world health scenario makes it an even more impossible task for them to put forward anything innovative.
