The Outlast Trials is the latest game from Canadian video game development studio – Red Barrels. It entered the early access stage on May 18th, 2023, on Steam, and players can go and download the game right now. Red Barrels has plans for the game to be in early access until the end of the year, but that can be extended if they choose to. Now, due to the game being in early access, some core features are missing. The game’s Steam discussion page is filled with players asking about how to change FOV.
If you already didn’t know, FOV stands for Field of View. In games, it refers to the observable area in which a person can see the game’s world at a particular instance. FOV matters the most, especially in games that employ a first-person field of view. And since The Outlast Trials is a first-person psychological horror survival game, field of view is an important feature. So, how do you change FOV (Field of View) in The Outlast Trials? Let’s find out!
The Outlast Trials: How to Change FOV
Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, a FOV (Field of View) slider option or setting is not available in The Outlast Trials. Given that the game is in early access, such a feature might be added to the game in the future. However, there’s an unofficial way to change the FOV. You would need to change some parameters in the config files for that.
To start, you need to find the game’s configuration file. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R. Next, type in “%localappdata%” and click on the enter key. Now you will be taken to the local AppData directory on your PC. Locate and navigate to this path: – AppData\Local\OPP\Saved\Config\WindowsClient.
Congratulations!! You are halfway through the process. After you are inside the config files directory, you will see a file named “Game.ini”. This is the config file that we will be editing. Open the “Game.ini” file on Notepad and enter the following lines:
[/script/opp.rbsettings_gameplay]
DefaultFOV=110.000000
AimingFOV=110.000000
Those number values can be changed as per your liking. By default, they will be at 90.0, so be mindful of that. Change the FOV however you desire, save the file, and you are done. Launch the game and see the game in a new field of view.
You can still choose not to do any of those things and instead wait for an official release of FOV settings in-game. But when that will happen is a mystery for now. If you want, you can join the official discord server of the game to learn about any upcoming updates and content for the game. The Outlast Trials is still very early in the developmental stage, so much remains to be seen and included. Until then, keep checking out DigiStatement for more on this game and everything gaming related.
