Finally, after all these years, the sequel to 2018’s The Crew 2 is here. Called The Crew Motorfest, it’s the third mainline game of the series and follows the general open-world style of previous titles. Developed by Ubisoft Ivory Tower and published by Ubisoft itself, the game saw its official release on September 14, 2023, and is now available for all the major platforms except the Nintendo Switch. However, like any newly released title, The Crew Motorfest also has some technical issues that need ironing out. One of those issues is the DualSense controller not getting recognized on PC.
While lots of players prefer to play racing titles on keyboard and mouse, there are others who feel more comfortable with controllers. That’s why developers allow so many input selections for their games. The DualSense controller from PlayStation is one of the best on the market right now, along with Xbox’s Elite and Nintendo’s own Pro controller. But for some reason, PC players are unable to use the DualSense controller to play the game as it fails to recognize the new input device. So, is there a fix for this? Let’s find out!
The Crew Motorfest DualSense Controller Not Recognized on PC Issue: Is there any fix yet
Due to its fresh release, players will need to wait just a while longer in order for Ubisoft to release a fix for this issue, if they ever decide to release one in the first place. Anyway, until then, try the following workarounds and see if any of them prove helpful to you.
Add the game on Steam –
While the game isn’t available on Steam right now, you can still add it there and configure controller settings. To do this:
- Open Steam and head to the library. Click on the “Add a Game” button located at the bottom and select Add a Non-Steam Game.
- Now, select The Crew Motorfest from the list and click on Add Selected Programs.
- After doing so, it’s time to configure PlayStation controller support.
- So, to do this, head to the Settings menu of the Steam client, and from the submenu, select Controller.
- Under the External Gamepad Settings section, tick the Enable Steam Input for PlayStation Controllers option. Close the window when you are done.
- Lastly, enable Steam Input for the game itself. To do this, right-click on The Crew Motorfest from your Steam Library and select Properties > Controller.
- On the right side, select Enable Steam input from the dropdown menu and close it.
- After all this, launch the game, and check whether the controller works.
Use DS4 Windows –
DS4 Windows is a great little tool that’s used to make a DualSense controller work on a PC. By using this, you really wouldn’t need to follow other workarounds (in most cases). To start:
- First, download the 64-bit version of both the .NET Runtime Framework and the DS4 Windows .zip file.
- After downloading those two files, install the .NET framework first. Now, extract the DS4Windows .zip file to a particular directory on your system.
- Open the newly extracted folder. From the plethora of files in there, find and double-click on the DS4 Windows application.
- If the .NET framework was installed correctly, you will get a SaveWhere pop-up. There will be two options: Program Folder and Appdata. Select the former.
- A new window will come up. Usually, a second window is also supposed to be there, but if it doesn’t come up, then go to the Settings tab. Click on Controller/Driver Setup on the right side of the screen.
- Give admin permission if prompted. Next, click on the Install ViGEmBus Driver option at the top. After it’s downloaded, install it correctly. Close this window now.
- Since PS5 support isn’t enabled by default, head to the Settings tab and click on Device Options.
- In the new window, check the DualSense Controller Support option. Close the window now.
- Lastly, head to the Controllers tab and click on Start at the bottom. You will now see your DualSense controller connected. Open the game and enjoy.
Update your controller –
All first-party controllers, even the fancy ones from third-party manufacturers, need constant firmware updates. If you haven’t updated your DualSense controller in a while, we suggest you go ahead and install the latest update. You can do this either through your PlayStation console or through a firmware updater on your PC.
Connect through cable –
If wireless doesn’t work, then it’s time to switch to wired. Use the official cable that came with the controller and connect it to your PC. Start the game and check if it recognizes the controller. This method will work just fine unless you have a faulty cable. If that happens to be the case, your only option is to replace it.
Update GPU drivers –
At times, the issue could be with the system and not the controller itself. Players who are running the game on outdated drivers should download and install the latest ones ASAP. You can get those from the GPU manufacturer’s official website, or if you’re going for convenience, then do it through the companion applications.
Use another controller –
Players who have more than one DualSense controller lying around can connect the one that hasn’t been connected yet. By doing this, you will kill two birds with one stone: check if the problem is with your controllers or with the game, and finally get to use the controller if it works.
Repair the game –
Another major cause behind this issue could be that the game is missing some of its important files. Repairing usually fixes the issue so, try that. Just open Epic Games Launcher and go to the Library. Find The Crew Motorfest and click on the three dots located on the right side of the game. Select Manage and click on Verify to start the validation process.
For Ubisoft Connect users, open the application first and then head to the Games tab. Select The Crew Motorfest and click on Properties > Local Files > Verify files. In case you are prompted, just select Repair.
That said, by now, the controller should be recognized by the game. We hope you find this guide informative. For more guides and info on The Crew Motorfest, follow DigiStatement. Also, read: Forza Horizon 5 Not Launching Issue: How to Fix It (2023)
