Do you remember System Shock? When the game first came out, it had the concept of a spaceship that was owned and used by an evil AI. Your job as a player was to hack into it and basically take down the AI. The original title came out in the 1990s. The game was set in 2072, but by the looks of how things are going with AI at present, SHODAN (the villain AI) feels eerier now with the remake of the game that just dropped. Yes, you heard that right, System Shock remake is out and is already garnering positive reviews on Steam. But since you have clicked on this article, we assume that you already know about the game and are looking to disable the Chromatic Aberration feature. If you too are struggling with the amount of chromatic aberration in the game, this is just the article for you.
We understand that the game itself is fast-paced, full of bright colors, and constantly bombarded with eye-catching visuals. Chromatic aberration is a subjective choice, but most players are not really feeling the graphics of the game with chromatic aberration turned on. After all, no one wants to have a headache after a few minutes of playing. Whatever your reasons may be, we are here to help you disable this feature. Just keep reading this guide.
System Shock: How to disable Chromatic Aberration
To disable chromatic aberration in System Shock, you will have to tweak certain lines in the game’s Engine.ini file since there is no in-game option. You first need to locate the .ini file and then make the changes using Notepad. If all of that sounds overwhelming, don’t worry, just follow the steps given below, and you should be able to disable the feature in the game. First and foremost, make your way to this path: C:\Users\UsernameFolder\AppData\Local\Systemshock\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor or C:\Users\UsernameFolder\Saved Games\Nightdive Studios\SystemShock\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor.
This is where the engine.ini file of the game is located on your PC. If you cannot see the App Data folder, select the “View” option located in the top-left corner of the screen. In the “Show/hide” section, checkmark the “Hidden Items” option. Moving forward, once you have the engine.ini file of the game, open it using the text editor of your choice. Now, add the following parameters at the end of the file:
[SystemSettings]
- r.MotionBlur.Max=0
- r.MotionBlurQuality=0
- r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=0
- r.SceneColorFringe.Max=0
- r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
- r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0
- r.Tonemapper.Quality=0
After this, save the file, and then launch the game. Chromatic Aberration should be disabled by now. While this has been working for most players, there are still some who have not had success disabling chromatic aberration with this method. Therefore, if this does not work for you, all you need to do is wait. We will make sure to update this post if we find another method. And finally, perhaps it is best for the developers to address this issue. Given that the game was launched recently, the developers may push an update in the future that may include a Chromatic Aberration toggle feature. But this is a big “may”, as it is just speculation on our part and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Anyway, that is all the information we have on this matter.
