Stellar Blade has finally made its way to the PC platform and players have gone nuts. The game’s reception on Steam has been huge, which means that it’s currently featuring a large player base. That said, recent reports have shed light on the fact that the game is failing to recognize the controllers connected to a PC. If you too are unable to play Stellar Blade on your PC, then consider reading this guide, as we’ve shared a bunch of workarounds to fix it for good.
Controller not working issues in PC games aren’t new. However, a game that has been a PS5 exclusive for over a year and is launching on the PC platform only to not recognize the connected controllers seems a bit odd. But since players are encountering the same issue, let’s get into how to fix it.

Enable controller via the Sound control panel
For this, go to Windows Settings, select the Sound option, and then scroll down to select the More Sound Settings option. In the new window, you will find all the devices connected to your PC. Now, connect your controller and then make sure that it’s enabled on the Playback tab. If disabled, right-click on it to select Enable. Once done, save the changes and then launch the game.
Enable/Disable Steam Input
Steam Input often helps games recognize controllers that are connected to a PC. While this feature works most of the time, there’s a slight chance that it isn’t working as it should in Stellar Blade. So, head over to Steam, go to Library, and then right-click on Stellar Blade. Once done, select Properties and then go to the Controller tab. Here, next to the override section, make sure Steam Input is disabled. However, if it’s already disabled, make sure to enable it. Now, launch the game to check if the issue persists.
Disable Controller Support
For this workaround, open Steam, go to Settings, and then in the Controller tab, disable all the Steam Input for specific controller models. Once done, save the changes and then launch the game.
Use DS4Windows
If you are using a PS5 controller, you can use DS4Windows to connect it to your PC and then check if the issue persists.
Update Controllers
Based on the controller you have, be it PlayStation or Xbox, you need to update their firmware via the Accessories application. If you have a PlayStation controller, use the PlayStation Accessories application to update the controller. However, if you have an Xbox controller, use the Xbox Accessories application for the same. Once updated, check whether the issue persists.
Disconnect extra peripherals
If you have connected any other input devices to your PC other than the controller you are going to use in-game, we recommend that you disconnect them first. Once done, connect your controller and then launch the game.
Launch Steam in Big Picture mode
Another workaround worth trying is to just launch Steam in Big Picture mode. To do this, simply click on the icon next to the minimize button on Steam in the top-right corner. In the Big Picture mode, launch the game to check whether the issue persists.
With that said, now you know all about the workarounds you can try to deal with the controller/gamepad not working issue in Stellar Blade. We hope that you find this guide informative. If you did, consider visiting DigiStatement for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
