Starfield Unable to Save In-game Progress Issue: Is There Any Fix Yet?

Although there aren’t any official workarounds available for this issue, you can refer to the list of workarounds provided below and check if they are of any help. Do note that these are just potential workarounds and aren’t guaranteed to work. Anyway, they are worth trying.

Restart game/PC

Of course, as always, the first thing that you should try to troubleshoot this error is restarting the game. If restarting the game doesn’t work, restart the PC. Turn your PC off, wait for a while, and then boot it again. After this, launch the game and check if the issue persists.

Stop OneDrive backup

Multiple players have reported that you can try and turn off One Drive backup to troubleshoot this error.

  • Click on the OneDrive icon on your taskbar to run it. If you don’t find this icon, you can always type OneDrive in your Windows search box and open the first result.
  • Click on the wheel icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
  • From the drop-down menu, open Settings.
  • Go to the Backup tab, and then click on Manage Backup.
  • Toggle off the backup option for all the files listed here. If you’re on an older version of OneDrive, you will need to click on the Stop Backup option, which you will find under every separate folder.
  • Click on the “Got it” option to save the changes.
  • After this, launch the game and see if the issue persists.

Verify game files

Steam user UnknownAmbience shared that verifying the game files can help you fix the saving error in Starfield. So to do this,

  • Open your Steam client and go to your Steam Library.
  • Find Starfield in the list of games and make a right-click.
  • From the context menu, click on Properties and then select Local Files.
  • Now, select the “Verify integrity of game files” option.
  • Wait until Steam runs the verification check, and then launch the game and see if the issue persists.

Allow the game through Windows Firewall

  • Search for Windows Security in your Windows search box and click on the first option.
  • Go to the “Firewall &NetworkProtection” option, and from the right side panel, click on the “Allow an app through Firewall” option.
  • Click on ChangeSettings.
  • Next, click on the “Add another app…” button.
  • Now click on Browse and select the executable file of Starfield from the game’s installation directory.
  • Add an exception for both public and private networks, and then click OK to apply the changes.
  • Launch the game and see if the issue persists.

Whitelist the game on your Antivirus program

If you are using Windows Defender or a different third-party antivirus program, consider adding the game’s .exe file to the exception list of the antivirus program. It is possible that the antivirus has flagged the game as malware, resulting in restrictions on its functionality. You can also disable such programs before launching the game.

Well, these are some of the workarounds that can fix the unable to save in-game progress issue in Starfield. Hopefully, you can use our guide to troubleshoot this problem in the game. Stay tuned to DigiStatement for more such gaming-related content.
