Starfield Emma Wilcox Bug: Is there any fix yet

While Starfield has been out for some time by now, the number of issues it has hasn’t decreased at all. Coupled with the poor PC optimization, there’s a lot that needs to be fixed in the game. Among its many bugs and errors, this guide in particular will discuss the Emma Wilcox bug and share details on whether there is a fix for it.

Belonging to the Freestar Collective faction, Emma Wilcox is a temporary companion who joins you during the Deputized faction quest. Now, as with other bugs, there’s one that affects her too. For some reason, Emma tends to get stuck during a mission, and so this guide will help you deal with that.

For now, players will have to make do with the following workarounds. Bethesda has yet to put out a major patch, so the given workarounds are the only choices players have for fixing the issue.

Complete The Great Laredo Caper quest –

One player got around the stuck Emma Wilcox issue by completing the Great Laredo Caper side quest. Just find Annie Wilcox, Emma’s daughter, near the Laredo Firearms vendor on Akila. Once found, talk to her, and you will be able to start the Great Laredo Caper side quest. Complete this mission, and at the end of the quest, Annie will talk to her mother, resulting in Emma getting unstuck and free from the bug.

Punch Marshal Blake until he gets aggresive –

Another workaround you can try, as stated by Hommertime on Reddit, is to head back to The Rock in Akila and keep punching Marshal Blake until he turns aggressive. Once that happens, it’s time to turn your tail and run. When you are outside, Emma should spawn there. You can engage in a conversation with her, and the quest should resume. Do note that you will need to pay a fine for causing all that ruckus.

Use console commands –

As shared by MouthSouth on Reddit, they used console commands to resolve the bug, so there’s no harm in trying this out. You can start by pressing the ~ (tilde key) to open the console command. Next, enter the following: setstage 002944b8 240. You can now continue normally with your ongoing quest. Do note that using console commands will disable achievements in the game, which is why it is advised to install the Achievement Enabler mod to counter this restriction.

Shoot Emma –

Reddit user Ok-Ship-5381 used a quite simple method to get Emma Wilcox unstuck. They just employed the eternal power of the gun. All you need to do is keep shooting Emma until she’s down. Don’t worry; she will not die. Approach her after she’s on her knees. Don’t forget to put away your gun before talking to her. In case you’ve got a companion with you, assign them back to the ship and then shoot Emma. You should then pay the fine for shooting her by returning to Alpha. Additionally, you can also try completing the “Empty Nest” side quest.

Reload a save –

Players can also try reloading a previous save and trying the quest again. Load the one that’s closest to your current progress, and then see if it helps in resolving this issue.

We hope that these workarounds have helped you fix this annoying bug in the game. In case you are having issues getting your auto-turrets to fire, here’s a guide on how to deal with this bug.
