Stardew Valley has continued to grow and nurture a loyal fanbase, supported by the many free and amazing updates ConcernedApe has released over the years. And once again, CA has taken time off from developing Haunted Chocolatier to release the upcoming 1.6 major update for Stardew Valley. The game is a great handheld title, and after its Nintendo Switch and mobile release, it is now also available on the Steam Deck. However, recently, there have been reports about players complaining about the game crashing frequently on the Deck.
Stardew Valley is a Steam Deck Verified title, so it plays great on it. However, that doesn’t mean it’s free from issues. Now, there could be a lot of reasons why the game is crashing, ranging from compatibility issues to something related to mods. Whatever the cause may be, here are some workarounds you can use to fix this issue and continue enjoying Stardew Valley on the Steam Deck.
Stardew Valley crashing on Steam Deck: How to fix it?
Players can follow the workarounds mentioned below to deal with this issue. Try these and see if any of them are of help to you.
Switch back to default controller template/layouts –
A lot of players seem to be using community-shared controller layouts when playing Stardew Valley on their Steam Decks. While it’s very helpful, some players are facing crashing issues when using these layouts. However, as you can see here, switching back to the default controller layout fixes this issue, so if you are indeed using one of those community controller layouts, revert back to the default ones.
Get rid of mods –
While using mods is fine and all, using too many of them might eventually crash the game. You can’t just run 80+ mods and expect the Deck to run the game without any major issues. So, what we recommend you do is scale back the number of mods you want to use.
Update –
One common fix for all such kinds of issues is to simply update everything. If the Deck has an update, do that. Then do the same with all of your mods and the game too. This is going to help you avoid any issues related to outdated software. Now, if even this method doesn’t help fix this issue, check out the next workaround.
Switch to another Proton version –
For a lot of crashing issues on the Steam Deck, a very common workaround is switching to another Proton version. While there’s no guarantee that this will resolve the issue here, we recommend you try this first. Keep switching between different Proton versions to run Stardew Valley and use the one that gets rid of this crashing problem. Proton Experimental is a good alternative.
Reinstall –
If, by any chance, the issue continues to give you trouble, we highly recommend that you reinstall the entire game. Since Stardew Valley is a pretty small game, using this method wouldn’t take much of your time. So, go ahead and try this and see if the issue finally gets fixed. If not, then the only other thing that you can do is contact support.
And that’s all you need to fix this issue. If you are experiencing the same problem with Gunfire Reborn on your Deck, check out this guide. Lastly, as always, don’t forget to follow DigiStatement for more guides like this. Also, read: Stardew Valley Prismatic Slime location, level & more details
