Remember Chernobyl? Yes, that critically acclaimed mini-series. Don’t worry if you haven’t watched the series as this post has nothing to relate with the series. Long before the series, a survival horror action game series named as STALKER set in Chernobyl was released. It is actually set in an alternate reality where a second incident occurs in the zone of alienation in Chernobyl. The accident kills or mutates most of the inhabitants causes the area to be inhabited by illegal residents known as “stalkers”.
The first game in the series, “STALKER.: Shadow of Chernobyl ” was released in 2007. The game was developed by GSC Game World and published by THQ. The game won hearts of players by showing a diverse environment and capturing a spooky nature of the town.
Next year, Deep Silver released STALKER: Clear Sky, a prequel to the first game. The latest and the third game in the series was STALKER.: Call of Pripyat. The game was released in 2010 under the banner of d BitComposer Entertainment.
The release pattern of the games in the series is like this :
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007)
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky (2008)
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (2009/2010)
If one follows the release date pattern, the next game would be released in 2011 or 2012, but it didn’t happen. The new title STALKER 2 was scheduled to be released somewhere between 2011 or 2012 but due to some internal matters series developer GSC Game World froze the development of the game.
After six years of leaving the development of the new game, Sergiy Grygorovych, owner of STALKER developer GSC shared a post on facebook “Today 15.05.2018 I officially declare: GSC GAME WORLD DEVELOPS STALKER2.” He also posted a link of an official site of STALKER. 2 which made fans heartened. Here is the teaser trailer of the game. Unfortunately, the trailer contains no gameplay.
The news caught fire earlier this year when the official Twitter account of Stalker 2 mentioned the release window of 2021 along with the website of the game.

It is unclear whether Stalker 2 is under development or not. The website mentions three mail IDs for information, jobs, and press inquiries. There is no information available on which platforms the game will release on, what will be its system requirements and what location will be featured in the game. Since the previous titles of the series were only for PC, we can expect the STALKER 2 release for PC at least.
