When it comes to fighting games, Soul Calibur is one of the best sword or weapon based fighting games that are available in the market. So far, seven main titles have been launched in this series. Its first title, Soul Edge was developed by the Team Project Soul & was published by Bandai Namco.
It was first released as an arcade game but an upgraded & expanded version of the game was made available on PlayStation in December 1996. The name of the game was changed to Soul Blade in North America, Europe, and Australia.
The game became commercial success worldwide and it’s successor Soul Calibur was released in July 1998. The plot centers upon the eponymous sword, shrouded in mystery and rumored to offer unlimited power to anyone who can find and wield it; nine warriors embark on a journey to pursue a tenth who is rumored to have the sword, some to claim it and others to destroy it.

Well, if you closely observer the release pattern of Soul Calibur. It has taken three years to release a new game until Soul Calibur 3 & afterward it is taking 4 years & plus for the release of the new Soul Calibur game.
According to this release pattern, Soul Calibur 7 is expected to release in 2022 or 2023. However, there is no official announcement from Bandai Namco regarding the release of a new Soul Calibur game yet. We are keeping a track of all the developments & will let you know whenever any official news will arrive. Well, the game is yet to be announced but that is not stopping fans from giving the suggestions for the upcoming title. A Soul Calibur fan & Reddit user, Azynterrus has shared suggestions for the upcoming title. Have a look at it down below.
- Keep the current story mode format, and improve it and make it longer & better. The visual novel format opens us to much longer and detailed stories (e.g. BlazBlue), which I consider more valuable than a few hours of high-fidelity cutscenes.
- For the story itself, deviate completely from the old timeline. Let someone else defeat Nightmare and actually wield (read: get possessed by) Soul Edge and still use their old style, like Cervantes in SB, Patroklos (with Soul Calibur), and what they should have done with Raphael in SCV. Figure out what to do about greatsword!Nightmare in SCVIII.
- A new mission mode that’s slightly similar to Libra of Souls, except with a bigger, more detailed map, better travel system, new dialogue system, and actually branching paths based on your choices. I’d also like to see the concept of having characters join your “party” kind of like Chronicles of the Sword.
- PLEASE give us back team battle and survival.
- Mod support on PC! Another benefit of visual novel stories is that we could make our own. Plus people could add new parts without just replacing old parts.
- Proper 2P costumes, and bring back old costumes as 3P, 4P and beyond (CAS parts or otherwise). Ideally the ones I want get community feedback on which are the most popular.
Speaking of character creation:
- I’d like an improvement to the pattern and sticker system. Being able to just freely paint on it may be overkill, but too often am I not able to achieve the effect I want because of wonky wrapping or mirroring, because we only have a square and no rectangles, or because a sticker will overlap multiple colour-zones when I just want one. More sticker slots and being able to stretch width/height separately would be good enough.
- Make everything colour (not just up to 4) and stop preventing us from uses reds and oranges on undergarments.
- Have genericized versions of standard-roster parts (e.g., Yoshimitsu’s pants without the flaming skulls) so we can make our creations more distinct from them with our own stickers etc.
- Have more battle start/end lines and let us choose which animations they tie to and/or their frequency. Stop making it solely based on 1P or 2P side!
But make sure you bring back all the old voices so I don’t have to change any of my OC’s.
