Can you change your character?
The short answer is Yes, but unofficially. However, there is a caveat. The caveat is that you can only change your character by using multiple Steam accounts. Likewise, it is currently not possible to change your character in the game officially. Although it is possible to change your character in the game unofficially, you may not be able to get your preference specifically. Therefore, you may have to create 10 or 100 accounts on Steam. This is a very inefficient way to change the character that you want in the game.
