Update: RoadCraft has been listed as Playable for the Steam Deck. While some are able to enjoy the experience without any hiccups, many players are unable to run it on the handheld. So, you will have to try the game out on your Deck to confirm whether it works. You can use the Proton 9.0-4 version or the latest Proton 10 Beta to run the game on the Deck.
Original post from May 20, 2025 follows below:
Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment have brought a new addition to the list of games made using their in-house engine (although it’s a new iteration). Titled RoadCraft, this game is more about fixing infrastructures destroyed by natural disasters than experiencing various vehicles on difficult terrains. For that, SnowRunner is the best choice. While one can easily see the resemblance of this game to other titles like SnowRunner and Expeditions, the developers have clearly stated that this is an entirely new adventure comprising over 80 hours of pure gameplay. That said, now that the game is nearing its official release (8 hours left at the time of writing this), many players have gotten curious to know whether the game can be played on the Steam Deck. Well, if you are curious too, consider reading until the very end.
If you didn’t already know, previous games from the same developers have had great compatibility with the Steam Deck, so it seems obvious that the new game, which also uses the same engine, will also be compatible with the Deck. While we did hope that this would be the case, reality is a bit different.

RoadCraft Steam Deck Support Details: Is It Playable?
Based on early reviews from Steam Deck HQ, it seems pretty clear that you can’t play RoadCraft on the Steam Deck. The reason? It is not yet known but it has been confirmed that the game crashes while compiling shaders on the Deck, irrespective of the Proton version in use. The developers have clearly mentioned that the recent release is a new iteration of their in-house engine, so maybe that’s the reason why the Deck’s Linux-based OS isn’t compatible with it. While this is unfortunate, there’s something more to know about this matter.
Steam Deck Playable Status Confirmed?
While currently the game is not compatible with the Steam Deck, the developers have explicitly mentioned that RoadCraft will receive the Playable status on Steam Deck at launch. They also stated that they will be working on improving the accessibility on Steam Deck after the release. So, this is good news. But since the game’s current condition doesn’t align with what the developers have said on their official FAQ page, we are doubtful whether they will be able to deliver on their promises.
Anyway, we will be keeping an eye on this situation and updating this article with new information once we fetch them. Till then, make sure to visit DigiStatement daily to not miss out on any updates regarding the same.
