Remnant 2 How to Dodge Attacks

You may have realized that playing Remnant 2 is not as simple as it may appear on gameplay videos. Well, it is a souls-like game, so this level of difficulty is expected. These games, after all, are notorious for their challenging gameplay. From tough bosses to the fact that the game cannot be paused, everything adds to the challenge. Now, all that aside, since you have clicked on this article, you might be wondering how to dodge attacks during combat in Remnant 2. Well, in that case, you have landed on the right page because we will be sharing all the tips on evading enemy attacks to live a tad bit longer in the game.

Dodging in Souls-like games is a pivotal skill that can mean the difference between life and death for the player’s character. Whether it’s rolling, sidestepping, or backstepping, evasive maneuvers are crucial for survival in the face of relentless enemy assaults. In these unforgiving worlds, where enemies are ruthless and resources are scarce, dodging provides a lifeline, empowering players to persevere through arduous challenges and overcome seemingly insurmountable odds. That being said, let’s see how to dodge attacks in Remnant 2.

Remnant 2: How to Dodge Attacks

Remnant 2 How to Dodge Attacks

So, in Remnant 2, the primary method of dodging is rolling, and it plays a significant role in a player’s survival and success in combat. Well, there are other things like the backstep and Misty Step, but for the most part, rolling will be your go-to way to dodge attacks. Well, before we go over each strategy, you will need to understand what i-frames are in Souls-like games.

What are i-frames?

One crucial aspect of rolling in Souls-like games is the concept of invincibility frames, often abbreviated as “I-frames.” During certain frames of the roll animation, the character becomes temporarily invulnerable to enemy attacks. Successfully timing the roll to coincide with enemy attacks allows the player to pass through the attack unharmed due to these I-frames. The goal while dodging is to get the most out of these i-frames.

Rolling to dodge

Rolling is performed by pressing a specific button or combination of buttons, usually assigned to a dodge command. When executed, the character performs a quick roll or evasive maneuver, allowing them to move swiftly in any direction to avoid enemy attacks. The timing and direction of the roll are essential, as mistiming the dodge can leave the player vulnerable to attacks. This also brings us to the question of how to roll faster. Well, that, my friend, depends on the “encumbrance,” which is Remnant 2’s version of the overall weight of your in-game character.

Encumbrance, Rolling Speed, and I frames

So, as we mentioned earlier, the weight of the character’s gear influences the dodging mechanic. The concept is known as “equip burden” or “encumbrance.” The more weight the character carries, they will perform slow dodges, while using more stamina.

  • Lightweight Gear (0-25%): If the character is equipped with light armor and weapons, they can perform fast and nimble rolls at longer distances. This enables them to quickly evade attacks and reposition themselves during combat. (No Dodge Penalty)
  • Mediumweight Gear(26-50%): Medium-weight gear provides a balance between protection and mobility. The character’s rolls are still relatively agile, but the distance covered may be slightly shorter than with lightweight gear. (25% Dodge Penalty)
  • Heavyweight Gear (51-75%): Equipping heavy armor and weapons results in slow and cumbersome rolls. The character’s mobility is significantly reduced, making it challenging to evade attacks effectively. (50% Dodge Penalty)
  • Ultra Heavyweight Gear (more than 76%): Equipping such gear will restrict your character’s ability to dodge, but will provide better defense.

The length of the I-frames can vary based on the character’s equipment. Characters with lightweight gear generally have more I-frames during their rolls, allowing for more precise timing and evasion of attacks. Understanding the weight of your character’s gear, mastering the timing of rolls, and utilizing I-frames effectively are essential skills in Remnant 2 that you need to master to successfully dodge attacks in the game.

Misty Step

If you have already mastered the art of dodging by rolling, you can replace the dodge roll with something called the “Misty Step” which is way more efficient. But unlocking Misty Step is not easy. To obtain the Misty Step in Remnant 2, you will need to acquire a Ring of Omens first (6 in total). After which, you will have to collect the corresponding amulet for the Ring of Omens. The available amulets are the Full Moon Circlet, Death’s Embrace, Necklace of Flowing Life, Ravager’s Mask, Red Doe Sigil, or Talisman of the Sun. With the ring and its corresponding amulet in your possession, just combine the two to equip the Misty Step, allowing for effective dodging by consuming gray health.

Well, this is all the information we have on the Dodge mechanic in Remnant 2. We hope this guide was informative. For all your gaming-related queries, stay tuned to DigiStatement. Read more: Remnant 2 World’s Edge: How to Get & Find
