Remnant: From the Ashes fans can now enjoy its sequel, Remnant 2. Officially released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Windows on July 25, 2023, the game has been receiving wide praise from both fans and critics alike. Like its predecessor, Remnant 2 is a souls-like third-person action shooter title. Gunfire Games’ unique take on the souls-like genre has been met with positive reactions since Remnant: From the Ashes, and this sequel is no different. While the game is certainly a fun experience, some players seem to be encountering issues with their controller/gamepad while playing it on their PCs.
This is a particularly frustrating issue. Every player has their own input preferences when it comes to playing certain games, and not having the option to play with their preferred one can be annoying. Some players don’t like playing games on their PC with a keyboard and mouse, but with controllers. You might be the same too, if you happen to be reading this article. And so, here’s a guide that will help you resolve the “controller/gamepad not working” issue in Remnant 2.
Remnant 2 Controller/Gamepad Not Working Issue: Is there any fix yet
Since we don’t know the root cause of this issue, we highly suggest that you follow the given potential workarounds one by one for the best results.
Restart Game –
First and foremost, we recommend that you restart Remnant 2. When it comes to dealing with any kind of issue, restarting should be your first step. Sometimes it might just fix the issue, and if not, then you could just follow another workaround.
Disconnect other peripherals –
Now, in case you have other peripherals connected to your device, we suggest you disconnect them except for the controller, of course. This way, there’s no interference, and you can find out if the issue is being caused by one of your accessories or not.
Turn off Steam Input –
Steam Input is known to cause issues with controllers. That’s why it’s best to turn it off. To start, open Steam and then head straight to Library. From there, search for Remnant 2 and right-click on it to select Properties > Controller > Disable Steam Input. Now, launch the game, and see if the issue persists.
Update Controller –
Controllers are a lot more advanced than they were back in the old days. As such, updating them frequently is a must if you want a controller that works without any issues. So, if you haven’t updated your controller in a long time, we suggest you go ahead and do so.
Disable Steam Overlay –
Steam Overlay is another one of Steam’s features that is prone to causing unwanted issues at times. The best way to deal with it is to simply disable it. You can do that exactly by opening Steam and heading straight to Settings. In there, select the In-Game suboption. Now, on the right side of the screen, disable Steam Overlay by unchecking the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” option. This is a global setting. However, if you want to disable Steam Overlay for Remnant 2 only, then do the following:
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Search for Remnant 2, right-click on it to select Properties.
- In the General tab, uncheck the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” option.
Switch to a wired controller –
In case your wirelessly connected controller is not working in the game, all you need to do is use a wired controller or simply connect your wireless one to your device using a USB cable. That’s it. Try doing so and check whether the issue persists.
Open Steam in Big Picture Mode –
You can also try opening Steam in Big Picture Mode and then starting the game. In case you don’t know how to do that, just click on the Big Picture Mode icon located at the top right side of the screen, just beside the minimize icon. After this, connect the controller, and then launch the game.
