Red Dead Online, the online component of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2, saw its final update on July 20, 2021, as the studio shifted its development to focus on the next GTA. Unlike GTA Online, RDO was unable to fully realize its potential owing to balancing and monetization issues. But despite that, the game still has a somewhat active player base, albeit quite small. While the game is mostly issue-free nowadays, it does have some problems that many players want to get rid of. The collector map not working issue is one of them.
This particular issue has frustrated players since the game’s beginning. As the name suggests, there’s a collector map bug that basically makes it worthless. Whenever a player opens up a collector map, all they get is a message that says, This map is unable to locate any collectibles at this time. You may need to earn a higher collection rank to unlock more map locations. This appears despite the player’s high collection rank level. So, is there a fix for this issue? Consider reading until the end for more details.
Red Dead Online collector map not working: How to fix it
Players can try the workarounds mentioned below and check out if any of them provide meaningful results.
Restart –
Well, the first thing that we recommend you do is restart the game and see if that helps. Restarting is a good way to know whether an issue is just a one-off glitch or something else that will need some serious fixes. So, do that, and if the issue remains, switch to another workaround.
Delete profiles and settings folder –
For those on PC, one player suggested deleting the profiles and settings folders of the game to fix this bug. So, just head to the following path first: Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2\Profiles.
Now, copy the file named Player and paste it in a different directory as a backup. Following that, delete the file in the game’s directory and launch the game. Next, you will see the Cloud Sync Conflict notification. Just choose Skip All. Furthermore, make sure to select Online and then enter RDO.
Use RDR2CollectorsMap –
Players can also use the RDR2CollectorsMap tool (website) to locate collectibles, and this way you wouldn’t need to rely on collector maps. You can head to this page to access the RDR2CollectorsMap.
Clear cache –
Console players can fix this issue by clearing the game’s cache. You can do that by following the instructions below.
PS and Xbox
- Start by turning off your console, but don’t enter rest mode.
- Wait until the indicator light on the PS4/Xbox One has stopped blinking, and then unplug the console.
- After thirty seconds have passed, plug back in the PS4 or Xbox One and turn it back on.
- After this, launch the game and check whether the issue persists.
Get a shovel and metal detector –
Sometimes players tend to ignore the most basic of things. While you will be able to locate and get some collectibles by just using the collectible map, there will be certain items that will require much more effort, especially those hidden beneath the ground. So from now on, don’t forget to get a shovel and metal detector before heading out to collect more collectibles. Both the Metal Detector and Shovel can be used to obtain collectibles buried underground.
