Sony’s PlayStation 5 continues to lead the ninth generation of game consoles, with Xbox far behind and Nintendo still holding on to release their next console. Officially launched in 2020, the console faced stock and scalping issues during its release, leading to Sony expanding its PlayStation Direct program in regions like Europe. However, these days, those issues are pretty much non-existent, and as of recently, the console has already sold 50 million units so far. Although the console is pretty great in its capabilities, some users have faced issues with it. And a particularly major one happens to be the console getting stuck on white light.
Usually, if the console’s power indicator is a solid white light, then it means that the PS5 is powered on. However, if it’s stuck in white light, then there’s a major issue. Something like outdated system software or an HDMI could be the cause of this. Basically, locating a source is going to be next to impossible. However, finding a fix isn’t. So, continue reading to know which fixes you can try to fix the issue for good.
PS5 stuck on white light: How to fix it
Players can use the following workarounds to fix this issue:
Update system software –
For most of your PS5-related issues, updating the system software is usually what helps fix them. So, the very first thing that we recommend you do is that. And to update your system software, we suggest doing it in safe mode.
- First of all, turn off your PS5. Once the console is off, hold the power button for seven seconds, or until you hear a second beep.
- After hearing the beep, connect your controller to the PS5 via a USB cable and press the PS button on it.
- Now, select the Update System Software option and wait until the download is complete and installed.
Restart your TV –
The issue here could be your TV itself and not the console. So, what we recommend you do is restart your TV and see if that helps in fixing this issue. You could also try restarting the console by just pressing the power button. In case none of these are of help, you can try the next method.
Unplug the HDMI –
Another fix that you can try is unplugging the HDMI. Sometimes the issue could lie with the HDMI, so trying this method can possibly fix this issue. Additionally, if you have a spare HDMI lying around, we suggest you try connecting it too. You can also try using a different HDMI port to check if the issue is with the HDMI itself.
Power cycle the console –
Power cycling is quite a common way of dealing with issues like this one. So, in case you haven’t tried this before, we recommend you do so. Now, to power cycle your console, all you need to do is power off the PS5 and then unplug it. After that, wait for a few minutes. Next, plug back in the console and turn it on.
Change resolution –
You can also try changing the resolution and see if that helps. However, for that, you will need to enter Safe Mode. And for that, you should follow the first method until you see a bunch of options on your screen. This time, instead of selecting Update System Software, you need to select Change Video Output and then Change Resolution. Set it to something else and then check if the issue continues to exist.
